Simms scored 13 goals! Sakamoto 7.. I'm not saying they would have got into our XI over those players, I'm saying they also had good quality squads and would have thought they were good enough to make the Play Offs. You say Rogers can't count because he left in jan but Carvalho only joined in Jan! Boro made the play offs the year before and Cov made the play off final, not sure you can really say they didn't have good, top 6 level squads. Sunderland another you could throw in who had a great young squad but then blew it all up. Norwich also a top quality squad who only slipped below us because for whatever reason when Sargent was injured they went to ****, and as soon as he was back they barely lost. The perception that we 'slipped' from 5th to 7th rather than other teams got important players back and shot past us is part of the issue. If we'd lost Delap for 3 months from November to February then had him from March to May instead of the opposite, we'd also have probably surged up the table rather than slipping down, but we probably still finish 7th. Would have just been a surge from 12th to 7th perhaps. Would people have looked more favourably on last season if that had happened?
We’re only two wins from 7th if you stop the rest of the league from playing, fact is we’re currently the worst team in the league and unless something changes we’ll be in the bottom three in the next couple of weeks.
I said last. night on another thread how good Preston looked going forward. Ultimately they couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo either. Sunderland were rank and yet sit top of the tree. Look at the tables and in particular the goals for column. Strikes me (other than maybe one or two) no coach in this league has anyone that can put the ball away. This league, this season, was /is a breeze for a semi decent team.
Swap Carvhalho for Tufan (with Tufan on the bench), then Millar or Belloumi on the opposite side to Philogene. That's some side, especially if we had the sort of depth we've now got. Put anyone at LB, Jacobs maybe; it wouldn't matter much as the opposition would be too busy defending!
Just looking at last nights results, it’s so open isn’t it, personally I think Tim needs a miracle but the season is still salvageable for the club.
The division is open and a good run of form will see us climbing out of trouble fairly quickly. However, looking at current form is a worry. We haven't won for 6 games and in that time we have the worst performance in the league. (Tied with QPR with whom we have an identical record - P6 W0 D3 L3 F3 A9). Also, in that time we haven't kept a clean sheet and have failed to score in half the games). Fact is, we're plummeting. We need to address things before it does actually become too late.
This situation is completely down to the owner and the people responsible for recruitment and releasing players. I wonder if he is feeling less loved. Our club is a basket case.
If Watford keep gaining points at the rate they are they'll have 36 by Christmas. It's looking like 72+ points for play-offs this season. Considering everyone keeps saying it's more open this year, that amount of points is much higher than what's needed most Championship seasons.
