    After IB

Hull away, Luton away, Oxford home, QPR away, Preston away

    we’ve taken 11/15 points

but I’m supposed to believe we’re not serious about promotion because we’ve had two dry games out of 14 where we didn’t lose anyway and kept a clean sheet.

Get the attack scoring again and we’ll be fine

talk about over reaction **** me

Oh btw, both Burnley and Leeds have just LOST away to milwall.

Burnley have also drawn 0-0 to both Preston (HOME) and QPR away in the last 5 and a 1-1 draw vs hull.

the good teams do drop points in games. No game in the championship is a given win. Especially away from home as experienced championship teams know how to grind home results

    One more thing

both the staff and players are extremely disappointed

riggy dropped to the ground at full time in frustration that we didn’t win. They’ve said the performance was poor they know what they need to fix. They’re back in training straight away tomorrow, these lads are striving for perfection every week. In a 46 game season these results will happen

the key to going up is 2 PPG winning the majority of your home games and being tough to beat away. Good job we’ve ticked all those boxes whilst being the top scorers and having the joint most clean sheets in almost 33% of the season.

    Rant over

we've played 2 more away games than home games, where we've only dropped 2 points and only conceded in 1 game

We have picked up points and not playing well. That's a good sign however, we do have to get back to controlling games. For large sorts of the games, Luton, Preston and QPR have been the better teams and we have conceded so many high quality opportunities and IMO been fortunate not to have more goals against.

Over time, this luck will run out. Therefore, we need to make the adjustments needed before this.

Saturday is a good opportunity to get the big 3 at home. Coventry are very inconsistent and a surprise defeat to Derby last night will have knocked them a bit after a recent resurgence in form.

Pleased with point. Teams are making us work hard to get something out the game and we are responding by doing that. Keeping momentum going forward. I love this top of the league stuff. It’s never easy being top and everyone trying to knock you off but this is a brilliant moment to be a Sunderland fan. Let’s all enjoy the ride…we have waited long enough. HTL!!!!!

I wouldn't disagree, but other teams are allowed to play well against us and the likes of Burnley and Leeds have struggled in recent games against QPR and the like. This season is such a slog that there are times we won't dominate or control games - if you can still get something from them it bodes well. I don't necessarily think our luck will run out, but yeah we have conceded a few chances that better teams might have converted. That's football though...

This is a weird hill to die on, ha. You realise someone posting "good point" or "we should be beating these" on an internet forum makes literally zero difference to the outcome of matches, right?

In reality, you're "accepting" the result just as much as anyone else is... because you literally have no choice. It doesn't matter what you post here, the result is the result, and you have to accept it. We all do. People can react in different ways on a forum but I promise you it will have absolutely no impact on our league position come the end of the season... Sorry but that's something you'll just have to accept.

11 points from last 5 games, including 4 of them away is an excellent return, imo.

The team wasn't at its best last night but had enough about them to grind out a draw which is what teams do that finish high up the league. (any league btw). The goals will come with the players we have in forward areas.

Jobe a big miss but will come back refreshed in a couple of weeks. We will also have Patterson and. Alese to add to the squad depth with Ballard 100% too there's loads to be positive about.

Poor day at the office but still got a championship away point and another clean sheet.
Just thought overall we were sloppy. When breaking through midfield I felt we always made the wrong choice, passing wide when someone had made a great run up front or vice versa.
I've been critical of Neil but thought he was really good last night apart from his shooting! O'Nien also really good.
Tough game Saturday. Hard to judge Coventry at the minute. HWTL.

More than happy with where we are even tho our performances haven't been great against QPR and Preston. We can't outlay every team we play. Last night did underline what a midfield machine Jobe is and how much we miss him

Simply being ‘the better team’ doesn’t win you the game, it’s irrelevant. Better at what? QPR only had 3 shots on target but failed to score against ten men at home. Preston had 2 shots on target and failed to score at home. So they’re not better at scoring, which is what wins football matches, and they’re not better at gaining points.

With our status, and support, these games are like cup ties for the home side and the occasion lifts their players. Without the Sunderland fans this game would’ve been a dickhead banging a drum in a half empty stadium.

More points gained on Leeds and Burnley who we’re supposed to be worried about …

… it’s not a case of our luck running out, we’re not clear at the top through luck alone.

Morning all long day . Disappointing performance and didn't do enough to take all 3 points. Starting games slowly is a bit of a worry we seem to sit back and invite pressure. We obviously missed Jobe Browne in my opinion had a very poor game and I didn't think Mepham had the best of games the early booking seemed to affect him. They targeted cirkin in the air and he was put a hard shift in.. Our passing seemed hurried and not up to it's usual standard. When you play poor it's important to get something out of the game we did and we move on to another important game. Let's go into the international break with a win for a well deserved rest. On a different note thoughts are with those affected by the terrible accident on the M6. Truly awful.

Yeah, I was happy how well we were carving out chances and I think I commented on it recently, and compared it to our poor days of wondering if we could manage a chance.
That said Preston looked up for it at home and were quite physical.
Plenty of fooking fouls and niggles from them. But they're chances were limited too as we dealt with them defensively.
I don't think we are falling apart, just that teams are raising their game against the top scalp. We're dealing with it to at least earn draws away.
We're still top and not the only ones with a dip of form or results.
    But we aren't losing.
Someone mentioned we should be beating these bottom sides.
On paper maybe. But we are the top side so teams will lift themselves against the top team imo.
And just because a team is lower down at this stage of the season. It doesn't make them shìt.

Jobe in the away end with his dad speaks volumes . The bloke next to me took his grandson for a picture and was made up.

There's a team spirit with the players and a connection with the supporters, coupled with a lot of talent in the squad.

PS, I fell asleep last night/early morning without posting this.
I've just skimmed a few posts and it seems it's not only @monty987 who's lost confidence in the team.

Well you know what they say.
    "It's tough at the top".
And we are still top :emoticon-0148-yes:

    And we are getting promoted.
I'll show my arse in Primark window if we don't.

Another point to the tally and 14 games , 30 points . Who would have thought it ? 4 points clear of Leeds in 3rd and 9 points clear of WBA in 7th. Joint best goals scored and 2nd best conceded goals. Nothing to complain about given the expectations we all had during the summer. We move on.

Sunderland Table and Standings - Football - BBC Sport

Maybe some disappointment not getting a few wins on our travels but it's early days . It's a team in progress that's the way RLB describes it , let's face it guaranteed first team players have been missing. We're still top with Patto out , Ballard out , Alese out , Jobe out and Hume playing weeks one game away from suspension. Remember the striker situation wasn't even resolved . Changed the team last night , looked a bit light weight , better movement when the two wide players came on . I'm remaining positive . Haway the lads !!

It's becoming tedious on here after games when we dare not to win, or dare to have an 'off day' whatever that means.
It's 11 v 11 and anything can happen, other teams are entitled to play well it isn't always about us.
What we have got us a team who never give up, endless clean sheets despite other teams failing to score from easy chances which isn't our fault but reading some on here you'd think it was.
We have a manager who doesn't hide when we've played badly, he's never once blamed the Ref for bad decisions unlike opposition managers who do nearly every week.
Being top makes us a big scalp and teams raise their game against us and up to now we've responded accordingly.
Momentum is important and is that 7 unbeaten, that momentum is driving us on, it isn't pretty every week but that's just football that were playing with the youngest squad in the whole of English football if I'm not mistaken.
Give these kids a break ffs. Rant over.
