I'm not a politics person, but my brother is clued up. I know one thing, to suggest the Democrats have went too far left, is basically falling for the propaganda of this Republican machine, backed up by Fox, Musk/former Twitter and other narratives created by influencers who are also problematic, ie, Tate, Paul, etc. Bernie Sanders was REAL far left and he was much more of a proper candidate than Kamala Harris. Another ancient man but an ancient man with a conscience. No one is a perfect politician, but having some sort of heart and compassion goes a long way. Democrats, like our Labour, don't have a ****ing idea or a vision or a personality. They think old school thoughts that because you're a Dem you have to have this line of thinking, or if you are a Republican, you can't say this. Personally, I can't understand our country's eagerness to spunk money away with illegal immigrants. But also, there's a festering crust of fascists on the rise. Who are attacking anyone not white British. Its happening mostly online, but it's doing a similar job as the misogynistic element, it's making extremists out of our youngest.
It's a pity no lessons were learnt from Brexit. When you pretend social media doesn't exist you leave yourself wide open to an agile opponent who's always one step ahead. The Democrats kept saying and doing the same things that wound up millions of pissed off, tech savvy activists and influencers.
One of the problems is that the definitions are shifting, left to many people is now about social attitudes, and less about economics. This bears out of you imagine a person who has your perfect left economic policy but, let's say he is a racist, that individual would be considered right wing now. When you see the "rise of the right" which is actually just a bunch of working class blokes, this all begins to make sense. Many people are simply not liberal of any stripe and this causes friction with those who thought there was a consensus on the direction social attitudes were heading.

I called this as soon as they named Kamala as the democratic nominee. Conservative men in America would have a hard enough time voting for a left leaning woman from an immigrant family, she didn't have to make it even easier by having no policies and no personality. They never learn lessons, same as a lot of the left over here. A quote from the tv show Newsroom always comes to mind: "If Liberals are so ****ing Smart, how Come They Lose so Goddamn Always?" The left (I know dems are not really that left) always try to win elections by acting superior and telling people why the things they believe are wrong. Jonathan Pie nails it again.
The Democrats brought this on themselves by letting Biden plod on for so long making embarrassing mistakes in public appearance after another. Then left it too late to prepare a proper candidate to replace him. To not be able to have a viable candidate to beat an indicted convicted felon is embarrassing for them and they may not recover for a long long time...depending how much chaos Trump causes. But i genuinely don't even think it matters what he does. The American public are either thick as mince or so desperate they just want a change no matter who it is.
Common sense would be we rejoin the EU. We are now in hock to someone with horrendous values and his protectionist policies will affect exports and the wealth of our nation. We need better friends and to strengthen the economy. Not sure we will but it makes total sense,
The EU would put the UK through a ****ing mangle to let them back in. Would be a horrendous climb down.
Would be massively unpopular too. Brexit is our own 'electing Trump' moment; doesn't outwardly seem to make sense but the result of people feeling disconnected from government. You can't turn it around any time soon without a massive political fight.
