We spent big money this summer and we have a good squad. Last summer we didn't spend much at all in comparison. I don't know why this idea that last season's squad was significantly stronger is so popular. I suppose it comes from the hype around our January spending, but judging an entire squad based on the half-season loans of two or three proven quality players plus a few cheap unknowns who barely played seems a flawed measure to me.
How is it bonkers? Regardless of whether you agree with the Rosenior sacking you can’t deny Acun has made the bed that he has to lie in with it. He sacked the manager that led to our best finish since being relegated from the premier league under Marco Silva. That inherently was going to be a shadow for whichever manager came in had to stand in. Yes it may be a bit pointless about the styles of play and some finer details but when the sacking of Rosenior literally split the fan base opinion in 2 you’re going to have a large share of them question it.
Think James Fletcher's prediction on the 1904 Club sounded about right. They'll do a Sheff United; let us have the ball and hit us on the break. I suppose a lot will come down to whether we can actually do something with it while we have the ball. I won't get my hopes up. It'll probably get ugly when they score, both in terms of the performance falling apart and the crowd turning toxic.
Populist, nuanced…In other words what a lot of people think is wrong as they can’t think as deeply about things as someone believes they do themself.
They were arguing on the 1904 Club that the squad this season is actually better. It doesn't have the same superstar quality of some of the players we had but their argument was that its much more balanced with deeper cover across the pitch with less need to play people out of position. All subjective of course and not MY point. I do think though, that this squad is better than the tune TW is currently getting out of them. BTW I agree with your last point.
This squad is far more balanced in my opinion. Last season’s squad had a better striker when he was fit. You put Liam Delap in this team and I don’t think we are arguing about Walter out
Rosey had a £110m squad and didn’t deliver. But he’s a new manager, he was learning, and I think he would have become more adaptable as time went on. Sacking him was not a good decision, it sent a bad message out to the rest of the industry and was just a bit bizarre, it also threw all the carefully and well build foundation we had spent 18 months working on in the bin. Walter is a totally different proposition, couldn’t be bothered to build up a solid base, couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery, everything is just a mess currently. There is no point giving him any more time because this is just what Walter’s management is like. I think Acun is just holding on so as not to be seen to be bowing to pressure, which I suppose he needs to show he has that kind of resolve after the impromptu sacking of Rosenior. I would say Walter is as good as gone already it’s just a matter of timing and delivery. This season is ****ed already so there is no great rush really.
There was much less of a rebuild last summer, we had a core team already and supplemented with a few loans. We’ve signed some potential this summer but the amount we’ve spent doesn’t automatically equal quality - for example Giles and Kamara were similarly priced to Philogene but nowhere near his level of quality.
arrived back at the mkm gone 2am my choice to go mind ,seems acun is still backing walter according to the hdm
I for one was shocked when he got rid of Rosenior.I wasn't a huge fan of the Football being churned out but it was a big call to make and I'm still not entirely convinced Acun got rid of him solely because he didn't like his style of Football. I think there's much more to this than meets the eye. Maybe there was huge disappointment that he couldn't get us into the play-offs,maybe he had flung all his eggs in one basket in a desperate attempt at promotion, maybe Rosenior was unhappy that his full squad was to be dismantled due to us not going up? Many say that he got rid of him because the fans were becoming restless and Acun was bowing to fan pressure? If that were the case and given last-nights reaction from our own support,Tim Walter would not be leading us into battle this Sunday?
I disagree they certainly didn’t give up second half they were stillfighting and battling to the end hence it was only 1-0
Tufan delap Billy Jean carvalho Seri walk straight in to this team no doubt at all Only one of them was signed in January FACT
