On what basis are you being so negative about a man who hasn’t started in a new role? Even though he has proven himself to be an innovative and creative manager throughout his career. Or is this because you really think Ancelotte is the only manager in the world that can do the job?
He might be great in Portugal with his own players but there is nothing to suggest that he can transport that success (without those same players) to one of the biggest clubs in the world. I am against the notion that a club like ours is reduced to taking a punt on a manager who is untested at the level of the PL, a manager who will be stripped of all those adoring players who hang on to and follow his every word. Our dressing room is full of lazy bastards and snakes who are out for what they can get from being a United player and I suspect, like all who have gone before him (many that were vastly more experienced) that Amorim will go the same way. Sure I like Ancelotti, he's a manager that has been there, done that with many of the top teams in Europe. My thoughts are why did we not throw as much at getting a manager as we do at getting Bayern's rejects - it doesn't make sense. Go get the best if you want to be the best.
David Moyes - experienced head in the premier league - failed. Louis van Gaal - big name, managed at massive European clubs, previously successful - failed. Joes Mourinho - big name, managed at massive European clubs, multiple winner - didn't work. Why would Ancelotti be a success? I mean, he probably would be, but there's no guarantee of anything. He went to Everton, had a bunch of ****e players, he walked back out again.
I think you’re taking an extremely pessimistic view here. This is absolutely unwarranted! Mourinho came from that very same background. Sure, Porto won the Champions League under him but Porto was already a power house. Amorim took an underperforming team scrapped of resources and turned them into a power house. What is there not to love? Moreover, many incredible players come from that league and the teams always do well in Europe. So what is with this narrow view of “lower league”? Even Ole did relatively well in his first eighteen months coming from Norwegian league. Bingo! We are certainly no Real Madrid at this point in time. Why would we assume Ancelotti is simply going to come in and build a successful team out of our unpolished players? I actually don’t remember Ancelotti taking a mid table team that we currently are and turning them into world beaters.
Mixed bag performance against stubborn opponents but at least we have our first win in the Europa thingy. Amad was excellent, and certainly has made it hard, if not impossible, for anyone else to get a game ahead of him, especially Antony who must surely be on his way. Good result that sets us up nicely for RVN's big finale against Leicester.
Great result, great goals and a very good performance. Ugarte was my MOM, socks down, old school midfielder, disrupting, tackling everything and everyone and putting some useful balls together too. Good to see the mood has lifted and a great way to send RVN on his way.
Not ideal that Liverpool seemingly have a free run at the league this season due to everyone else's bang averageness, but there's really not a lot in it after the top two and we are improving, gradually. Top four isn't a trophy, but it's a step forward. Amorim coming in should lift us a bit more again. Ruud has just played players in their actual positions and they've played a good deal better as a result. Not made stupid changes or selections for the sake of it. Rashford a bit **** again mind.
Enjoyed seeing City age before our eyes yesterday. De Bruyne, Walker, Gundogan, Ederson, Silva, all just seem to he showing their age. The rest of the supporting crew around that spine are just fluff. Foden is never carrying a team. Grealish either. Doku ****e without everyone else doing his work and have never rated Stones, he's exposed now Rodri out. Long may it continue, hopefully Pep leaves and then Haaland jumps ship to Real sharpish when his supply dries up. The problem is Liverpool look decent!
While Slot has started his tenure exceptionally well by bringing discipline to the team, Salah has decisively been the difference in that team. Looking at the contract situations at both City and Liverpool, I believe we have a good chance to start competing in the next season or so. Chelsea will be up there too with their young squad.
I’m glad this game actually ended in a draw. There was too much hype going into this game. This gives Amorim a good look at the reality that old habits don’t just die overnight. For example, the way we keep passing the ball around at the back pointlessly. There was very little sense of control and confidence to take the game to Ipswich. It will take some time for the players to readapt to this new system.
It will take a while. A draw will do today. He needs some key players fit as well, like Mainoo, Martinez, Yoro and Shaw. He'll have had a look at Rashford and Zirkzee and been able to see both are ****ing useless and need to be binned. Hopefully those two can be resolved in January.
Good to se Shaw back but he seemed a little hesitant to bang forward, perhaps the new style the boss want to play but his strong point was always his ability to bomb forward and bang in a cross - not sure how he will fit and how effective he will be if he has to hold back at the half way line - seems a waste. Rashford - good goal but I think the boss has seen through him, the same with Zirkzee, Garnacho seems to be at something of a crossroads with the change in style while Ammad has embraced his role and looks the real deal down that right wing - good by Antony.... One game in, let's see how it goes.
Amorim needs time. I like him, he’s a good communicator and has a far better personality than Ten Haag. I don’t think you’ll get top 4 but a europa league place is probable, but I’d be looking at a winning the europa league this season to get into next seasons champions league.
Tbf I think Amorim is a really good no risk shout Tbph He already reminds me of Klopp in just the way he carries himself As long as he isn’t given ridiculous (comparatively) amounts of money either it works well (which I think it will) or he struggles If it’s the latter by the time he is ousted Carlo Will probably be available again and hopefully you will have saved mo eh by that point it looks from an outsiders perspective like the club have set about sorting everything out since the new guys came in I obviously don’t want you to be better than us but a strong Utd is important to our league
I like to think that Amorim's initial team selection had more top do with Thursday's Europa fixture than his plans for the future. I expect he was trying to wing it, hoping we could nick a win at Ipswich while keeping his preferred players on the bench - but Ipswich didn't like that idea so he was forced to play some of those he would prefer to have rested. The next two games will provide a more realistic view of his preferred first eleven.
I hope he was simply trying to get a sense of what works based on his limited time with the players and not thinking about Thursday. That would be silly given the league should be a firm priority. I assume he’ll try different things in the next few games before settling on his preferred 11.
I like the look of this. Be interesting how Antony does in this role. And also Mount, in what I see as his best position.
Well, tonights game was quite pleasing for only a second outing. The players showed lots of energy and willingness but also good ability and understanding of the system Nice to see quick first toutch passing with the bonus of knowing where a player was expected to be. We looked fluid and impressive going forward but still shakey at the back, still i suppose you can only do so much to change things in 8 or 9 training sessions whilst trying to instil a new system of play.
To see a coach on ten sidelines who knew exactly what he was doing, and what he wanted the players to do, was excellent. Ten Hag had given up and was making it up as he went along. More or less everyone got a game, and they played it around nicely. If Garnacho could finish the score would have been more realistic! Need to get Shaw fully fit for that left wing back position, Malacia has a long way to go to be up to speed.
