I’m hearing that you think you have the answers, it’s a bit superior sounding to be honest, but I think you have to bring sides together with clear boundaries. You’ve studied some stuff and so have we all, but you’ve landed out of it with no knackers in my view. I’ll give you some examples
“keeping our pensioners warm” what is our ?
‘these people’ presuming they all have the same intention and are the same
‘they should stay where they are in the 1st place. Fight for their country, re build their country’ eh? So a woman aiming an education should fight the Taliban or Iran
‘What further laws will they be willing to break once they arrive?’ - because they travel they’re all criminals - some are professors
    Multiculturalism has failed,’ Enoch Powell
So in bring people together to find a solution did you learn to accept language like this ? keen to see what you study and practice if accepting this is your conclusion.
why do you challenge me not this ? Because you are more practiced and educated than me? In Ruth you known nothing about me so step down off your high tower a bit eh?

I'm not on any high tower. I'm not the one claiming to have the moral high ground.

I certainly don't have the answers. But I know what isn't the answer.

I'm pointing out that belittling people's views is not the way to achieve consensus. If people are concerned about things like immigration then their views are valid, even if those views are based on misinformation. The way to get people to change their opinion is through persuasion and education. You don't like right wing views- the 'left's' air of moral superiority, their berating and belittling of people who don't share their views only pushes people further to the right and fuels those sentiments. That's not how you build a better world; it's how you guarantee conflict and the rise of extremist politics.

I once read a tweet that said something along the lines of "to fight fascism you have to take the extreme opposite view, centrism is just pandering to them". That's the most naive thing I've ever read. The point of taking the centre ground to is fight all forms of extremism and to find a way forward that works for everybody. It's probably the harder way than leaning heavily one way or the other. But it's the right way.

i wouldn’t say that challenging the othering that goes on is belittling people. They’re going to think what they think and say what they say at the end of the day but personally speaking I’m not willing to accept some of that dangerous disrespectful language towards other human beings and hear the said poster pretend they are caring people. There are things we all agree on . Those organising crossings need sorting, the numbers are too high, the system is too slow, but I’m not having someone imply they’re all criminals and their lives are less worthy because they are not ‘one of us’ . It’s bang out of order and you’ve said nowt about that. Letting that stuff slide is worrying tbh.

If you look back over various threads, you'll see that I always challenge inaccuracy when I see it. If you look on this thread, you'll see that I've said that people are posting their prejudices about immigration and are unwilling to consider that its a very complicated issue. So I haven't left anything unchallenged. I agree with you that dangerous disrespectful language has no place when discussing politics. Which is why I challenge it when I see it.

The nut job with the machine gun tattooed on his face that threatened Farage got to the UK, that in itself is astounding, it was reported and actual proof is freely available yet he was still allowed to board a boat and get here. He is detained thankfully but at a financial cost to the UK, he should have been detained in France or wherever he made his threats from and let them deal with him. What I can’t understand is there will be people who are glad he got here and would like to see him follow up on his threats.

Any protests, in London, would have the likes of Jeremy Clarkson declaring the protesters as louts, disrupting the lives of decent people, who should have the water cannons turned on them. He was in The Sun furiously saying how 'furious' he was that the protest had been banned when, in reality, it wasn't and the Met Police made that clear.

He's due to address the farmers today but, to me, he's exactly the kind of pompous 'gentleman farmer' who gives people the wrong impression ...

... wealthy land owning louts who love hunting & shooting, pontificating and playing around in expensive 'toys'.

If he's their 'poster boy' I think they've loaded their shotguns and blasted their own foot off.

'Tens of thousands of farmers will take to the streets this morning to protest the so-called 'tractor tax' that they say will destroy family-run farms.

An estimated 10,000-40,000 protesters – including high-profile names such as Jeremy Clarkson – are expected in the capital, with two separate protests taking place.

One will see the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) bring 1,800 members to meet with local MPs in Westminster, while another involves a march to Whitehall led by farmers’ children on toy tractors.'

And here's the poster boy going full on 'Nigel Farage' when cornered by someone smarter than him <doh>

Can't answer a simple honest question?

No problem ... simply attack the BBC as corrupt, invent a flimsy excuse, make up statistics and appeal to the mob.

FFS, you didn't buy a farm to farm ...

... it was to cheat the country out of tax you pompous hypocrite.

'Clarkson told the Times in 2021 that avoiding inheritance tax was “the critical thing” in his decision to buy land - but said today that he had bought the land "to shoot".'

You generally find that the same people who idolised Bonko also love Clarkson, 2 cheeks of the same arse

They all sound so similar don’t they.

Clarkson worked for the BBC, for over a decade, but attacks them as corrupt when he’s proved to be a liar and a hypocrite …

… not that there was ever any doubt.

Gone off Clarkson big style, had enjoyed his fight against local council bureaucracy, think he's being untrustworthy with his latest diatribe...

The same Jeremy Clarkson who wanted public sector workers put up against the wall and shot for "protesting" with a strike for a pay rise. So protesting is okay for Jezza but not for anyone else. Sound familiar? Hypocrite of the highest order

Clarkson doesn't bother me one way or the other, he's just sort of there. He doesn't hide his Tory leanings so that makes him unpalatable to some people. I'd be very surprised if there weren't any Labour-approved celebrities out there who hadn't made investments intended to reduce the amount of tax they pay. The farmers' argument that most farms are asset rich but don't have high turnover, and the government haven't taken that into account, is a reasonable one. Clarkson, at least, is supporting an industry that he's come to know something about so good for him.

I didn't say it had. It was a general comment on attitudes towards Clarkson.

Apologies, I thought you were discounting my comments due to a tory labour stance.

Nope. Wouldn't discount anyone's comments (might argue with them, mind!). I can understand the sentiment that he's hypocritical, I was just saying I think the farmers have a fair argument and I think it's fair enough that he's supporting them. The politics stuff was just a comment on some people seemingly disliking him because of his politics.
