Pandur but his slow distribution was painful to watch. Is this the heart attack football Walter promised us? Hughes. Couple of mistakes but the pick of a poor bunch today. Jones. Sympathy vote only. He cannot have enjoyed today being put under pressure every time Pandur passed to him in or around the penalty area. Thought the Pompey fans were superb. Put our support to shame. We should and could have had the game sewn up in the first half but this is Walter ball...... Possibly the worst second half performance of the season and the equaliser was a joke. Feels like a defeat and I'm amazed it wasn't. Not impressed.
his save in the first half when Hughes dropped a bollock was bang on too, was going right in the bottom corner
Is Pandurs distribution slow because there is no movement in front of him? It's literally only ever the CBS or fbs showing for it and they're often stood still
I watched that game in the R.A.F.A club Beverley Rd(roughly across the Road from the Sally Anne)...Memories eh?
Pandur, great saves but distribution ropey Belloumi, some good stuff but cut the diving out Pedro, nice goal, give him the ball more often Thought Jarvis looked good when he came on, much better than Kamara
Coyle is without doubt the only player who gives a toss, he must be wondering why at times! Get him in as player manager!
Belloumi - created the goal and was our main threat all afternoon (embarrassing dive though) Coyle - gives his all to the cause while others stand around watching Puerta - shouldn't have been subbed off IMO Special mention to Pandur for his triple save at the end which may (unfortunately) have kept Wally in a job
Belloumi Pandur Jones Belloumi was brilliant first half. He won tackles, he intercepted it, his touch is amazing and he got the assist and should've had a second when he perfectly teed up Simons. Pandur saved us again, but on the other hand his kicking really is poor, and much as people will mock that it does matter, particularly in times like the second half today where we're struggle to pass through them and it calls for some balls over the top to a player in space further up. He attempted them which we've rarely seen before but they were nowhere near accurate enough. Hughes would've been in for his first half performance but he really struggled second half when they got on top of us. Drameh was really poor I thought. I think he's often quite sloppy in fact, and I'm surprised it's not talked about more. He does some things well but he makes a lot of strange errors I think. He has a particular habit of giving it away near our goal within the first minute of a game, that's happened three or four times now.
Sort of. I think when the keeper can't find someone to pass to that's unlikely to be his fault. He's not going to want to just sit there on the ball with his fans getting frustrated. The problem with Pandur's distribution isn't the speed of finding a pass, it's the range of passes he can do. For this playing out from the back you need him to be able to clip one out 30 yards to Coyle's feet when he's in space because their attack have all pushed on to press the other defenders. Or ping one over the top for Belloumi to latch on to. He hasn't really been trying these balls this season but he was forced to today and they were miles off.
Mostly agree with two exceptions. I think Drameh is stuck with getting the ball near the corner flag and being told to pass it out from that point even though the opposition is swamping the area. It's predictable that the ball keeps going there so the opposition can easily pressure him. On Pandur, I think his major fault is how slowly he makes a decision and this applies to other players, e.g. Simons. Watch Zambrano when he plays, he gets the ball, he moves it on. He doesn't need several touches, he doesn't need to look around, he knows what's on and he makes the pass. That's how you move the opposition around, and that's not how we play mostly.
Five points for first choice, three for second, one for third. Pandur 86 Belloumi 72 Coyle 21 Jones 10 Pedro 7 Hughes 6 Puerta 6 Bottom placed team. At home. And we take the lead. Yet the keeper comes out as Man Of The Match for saving us from an ignominious defeat. Shows where we are at the moment.
