If Ferrari win here they are favs for the WCC- I do however think McLaren could win well here but if there’s rain I expect the Mercedes boys to join the party.
New track surface is much darker than the old one, so if it’s sunny we could see much higher track temperatures and with less relevant historic data combined with the limited setup time of a sprint weekend I’d think that could add some variation into the normal picture. Verstappen likely to take a grid drop for a new ICE too, so that’s at least one of the lead runners who will definitely be out of position.
Hopefully see some clean racing this weekend. I thought Max was an absolute disgrace and his penalties were long overdue. Avoid or we crash is just pathetic really. And then just straight pushing him off on the second move. Unbelievable! Arguably worse than Schu.
Only worse than Schumacher because it was more obvious, other than the time he went off and then deliberately damaged Hill. Mind you, blocking the track at Monaco was pretty obvious too. It will be interesting to see the rules they announce for next season.
Yeah. Squeezing Barachello almost into a wall, turning into Villeneuve. Did at least one in Group C too. Bloody awful really!
That was a bit close for McLaren! Team orders but not sure that was safest way to get Lando the win, although they did maximise team points.
Senna was the worst all, At least Michael's deliberate crashing was in slow corners. With 80's safety Senna could have killed Prost.
He's always been one of the best at gaming the rules, taken a while, but at least the stewards are starting to punish it.
Much as I'm not a fan of Max he races on track taking every advantage of the rules as he can. A bit like the teams working out every angle within the rules and taking advantage of them. I don't blame him for using the rules as currently written. That said I do think the cornering rules need changing as it's way too easy for the car on the inside to release the brakes or steering angle and push the overtaking car off. How to change the rule is difficult as in theory they could look at telemetry and determine if the driver on the inside eased off the brakes or opened up the steering but that's not great for everyone watching. Does look like quali is off for today. Any idea what time it will be tomorrow?
Watching sky , there seems a lot of doubt what will happen . Ranging from a midday qualifying session . To coming up with a solution from prior sessions . Sky have said it will start in 30 minutes .
Agree that pushing the boundaries of the rules is one of his characteristics (as with all the greats). Under the safety car delta is just a mistake though, like a jump start - no quibble penalty.
I wonder if Max thought Oscar was going below his minimum? Hypothetically: If Oscar was going under his delta by enough, to maintain Max's delta, he would have to overtake but he's not allowed to overtake under VSC? Oscar would get a penalty but would Max have also received one?
You’d hope the stewards would read that and only punish the first car. I think Max tried to anticipate the re-start here (and it seemed like a long ending phase) and then it went green straight after. Had it gone green 3/4 second earlier he’d maybe have got Piastri and avoided the penalty, wrong balance of risk vs reward I think, but that’s the kind of driver Max is.
