I struggle to believe what a mess our football club is in.

I like RM, he seems a good guy.
I like much of our squad and still feel like they are trying and care - unlike the last relegation.
I think we’ve been pretty unlucky so far rather than just plain old poor.
I think possession football has many merits.
but we are not very good at it yet.
We concede a lot of goals which is kind of point one of possession football - the opponent can’t score if you’ve got the ball. It’s urgent that we lots of time on transition to defence.
We don’t score a lot of goals, which is the main point of all styles of football.
Combine the two and RM still has a lot to work on.
I still don’t want to be the club that goes through 3 managers a season so I’m inclined to stick with the current manager until such time as the players throw in the towel.

Van Nistelrooy will be available pretty soon. I wouldn’t be against him, or Danny Rohl.

I had lots of FUN last night at Aberdeen v Rangers. As I watched the game I couldn`t help but make comparisons with Saints, and the Stoke game I watched the previous evening. Aberdeen brought in a new manager over the summer, who has galvanised arguably a weaker squad than last year, and got us unbeaten to the top of the league. Every player knows his job, and risks are taken the opposition half, not our own. He is proactive with subs, who all fit in seamlessly. We finish games strongly, with several winners in the last few minutes. Tactics are relatively simple and aggressive. The manager is humble - the place was bouncing last night, and the team have given the city a buzz we haven`t had for years. Aberdeen are like Ipswich. Contrast that with the `10 year plan` at Saints (what is the plan btw?) - dogma will get us relegated this season. Then what ? Rinse and repeat. Saints aren`t Barcelona of old, and a pragmatic approach is required for a provincial club like ours. Russell won`t change, so he has to go.

My mate is a City fan but he finds less to get excited about. Maybe because there is no risk of them losing. Until last night. I hope he was excited.

Good post....I think that "taking risks in the opposition half, not our own" is key. Played with a guy years ago who reminded us at the beginning of each match, " defenders never to take a risk, midfielders occasionally take risks, forwards always to take a risk"

Trouble is there are risks and risks we sadly are taking to many playing out of defence!!

If we had someone lined up, I’d still sack him. Although I’d do it in the morning now.

Let him bask in his smugness for 18 hours.

Unfortunately yes. We didn’t learn anything new today. Sad but that’s the reality. Ps. Won’t happen tho regardless.

Yeah if I were an Everton fan I wouldn’t really believe they’d lost that. Ramsdale with some great saves and poor finishing/decision making led to it.

We had 2 shots on target in a must win game. We got the win which is great but I don’t think it’s really a corner turned sort of performance

Need to avoid defeat at Wolves next week now

I suspect a few more tbh. A disaster v Wolves might be a trigger but I suspect we just might nail some more points now, gradually.

    Sure I think you’re right.

And I actually think that is the right approach from SR. They get a lot of rightful **** their way, but not worth changing for another Nate.

This is it. Had a Potter type said ‘yes’, they’d have moved. But we got burnt changing to something purely because it wasn’t what we had, and that burnt us. Unless it’s an obvious improvement, it won’t happen at this point, particularly whilst the players etc still like him.

I thought we approached both Potter and Moyes and were told no.

Was surprised to hear about DM being approached but wondered if we wanted to be more pragmatic and harder to beat.

Do we really know that? They might have sounded out both & both said yes but SR decided to give it more time?
