Went to Sum 41 last night in Nottingham, ****ing epic. Third time seeing them this year on their farewell tour but this was definitely the best of the bunch. Sad it’s the last time
Got plenty booked up for next year January - PaSSion Classics February - Bowling for Soup & Wheatus March - Limp Bizkit April - GHOST June - perhaps download. Looks like Green Day, Sleep Token and Korn headlining, with Prodigy, Bad Omens, Falling in Reverse, Jimmy Eat World, and the sex pistols fronted by Frank Carter all rumoured to be on the bill, which would sell it for me 100% July - Oasis August - Creamfields November - The Offspring Just need to sort something for September, October and December.
Really? Literally everyone else I’ve heard from has said they are excellent. Franks a great frontman, and a far better vocalist than John Lydon.
Seen him lots of times, but this tour seems to me like the longest he played for. Really good I thought, so I’m glad you enjoyed it. Was it Liam Bailey supporting again? I enjoyed his stuff
It never did it for me either Amin.I was blessed enough to see the Pistols 3 times in their original form. Last time I saw them with Johnny Rotten was the reunion at Brixton Academy in 2007 .They were good and yes,Rotten was out of key every song but it was a great gig and still gave me goosebumps. They're done now and as much as I hold them in the highest esteem for the memories,it's went too far and needs putting to bed.
Each to their own I suppose, I think you and OLM are in a minority of 2 though, judging by the nothing but positive reviews I’ve seen elsewhere! Will reserve judgement myself until I’ve seen them myself, if I do. Although my opinion is unlikely to be tainted, considering they’re before my generation and I’ve never seen them live originally. I know a lot of people can’t see past a change in front man, but it’s not something that’s bothered me much unless it’s someone with a very unique and distinctive voice and style of singing. For example, pretty much anyone could sing for Queens of the Stone Age and make it sound good, but nobody could replace Axl Rose. I suppose one thing though is Frank is very popular with younger generations so will be making the songs more accessible to new ears.
Saw The Libertines at the Roundhouse on Friday night. Great live as ever and Pete looks healthy for a change. There's a nice Hull link within the band. Friend of mine (from Hull) is their tour manager/tech/and extra guitarist.
Sorry,I wasn't trying to put you off You're right,it's very much an individual thing and unexplainable in some ways.To me there are certain components in bands that I like/or have liked in the past that are pretty much irreplaceable, not just front men, could be anything. When the Clash started to implode in 82,it started with Headon(the drummer),huge loss,he was a top class drummer. They replaced him briefly with the original drummer and scraped by but when Jones left,it was finished.I went to see the Clash mk2 in the Barrowlands Glasgow and it was just dreadful, soulless, talentless, cheesy(from memory,it's been brought up on here before and I'm sure OLM described it as a tribute act type gimmick, pretty accurate). I walked out and away half way through, dejected. You're still looking up at 2 of the most iconic figures in the punk rock movement but it was 'Crap'...Quite an irony given the name of the album they were promoting(cut the crap). It probably did Strummer a favour to be fair.He disappeared into his 'wilderness year's' and went on to form the 'Mescaleros',a fantastic group of talent, and Strummer would find some of his finest lyrics and arrangements in the last year's of his life. Go and see the Pistols if you get a chanceAt worst you will have seen 3 musicians who forged a movement that will never be forgotten by a generation.
Saw Alice Cooper a couple of weeks ago, great gig considering he's 76, great show and his band are brilliant.
You’re correct, I saw The Clash post Topper and Mick, in Manchester, and I also gave up on it half way through. You’d expect, that with Joe still fronting them, they’d be okay, but they’d lost all their energy. From The Jam were the same, they were The Jam but without Weller and though musically they sounded the same, the vocals let it down. Carter may be a better singer than Lydon, but he’s not Lydon, so it’s just not the same. Probably a bit different for those who weren’t around for the original band and I suspect that the audience they’re getting now (you can see all their set on YouTube, they do the post Lydon **** like Silly Thing and My Way as well).
Went to Briana Corrigan (ex Beautiful South) at Wrecking Ball tonight She’s still got a fantastic voice. Did lots of her own stuff but a fair bit of B South too. Really good and it’s a nice little venue
