I like looking at the 2yo maiden and novice races and there are 3 at Newmarket tomorrow 12.35 has some lovely pedigrees on show and will beinteresting to watch 13.43 is of little interest to me 14.17 I think that a newcomer could be backed into fav which could provide an opportunity to get 2/1 or more for Montezuma (best priced 15/8 at present). On debut finished 3¼l 5th of 12 behind Hott Shott in a good time. Weakened and lost 2 places close home. Down in trip tomorrow. Hott Shott, the evs fav that day, had previously been beaten 2¼l by G2 winner Wimbledon Hawkeye. Pedigree oozes class on both sides
I notice there is a 5yo Workforce mare in the G3 Mares Novice Hurdle at Down Royal. Best price 5/2. Only had 3 runs, won 2 and was odds on when hampered and finished down the field on second run
Down Royal 14.05 looks a shoe-in for Brighterdaysahead. Not a bet at odds on but would be of interest at Evs if money comes for Daddy Long Legs
The listed Wensleydale Juvenile Hurdle at Wetherby has thrown up some decent winners down the years including Porticello for the Moores and a certain Langer Dan in 2019. The 2010 renewal also threw up a 200/1 winner in the shape of the Jennie Candlish trained Maoi Chinn Tire. This year's renewal looks well up to scratch and the market is headed by the Gredley family's Liam Swagger. James Owen's runner comfortably beat the re-opposing Torrent on hurdles debut at Market Rasen but it is worth pointing out that Nigel Hawke's runner has an 11 lb pull in the weights today and the difference in their prices (Liam Swagger 5/4, Torrent 12/1) is a little bit surprising. The next 3 in the betting are pretty close together - Static (dual hurdle winner in France making yard/UK debut), ex-Jim Bolger gelding Model Approach (3rd behind Liam Swagger and Torrent at Market Rasen) and the Skeltons' Denzil - a full brother to Nube Negra - who won well on hurdles debut. The former Joseph O'Brien inmate Inspire Hope brings some decent Irish form to the table whilst outsider Play Pretend (finished 3rd to another Gredley juvenile, Opec, last time) needs to hope the first time cheekpieces bring about marked improvement. I do like to see the Gredley colours winning (brings back happy memories of User Friendly and Environment Friend) but at the prices I will take Denzil to prevail and form one leg of what looks like being a day full of winners for the Skeltons in Yorkshire. Over at Down Royal it should be a similar story for Gordon Elliott at a meeting where he has started many of his good horses over the years and there will be plenty of multiples on his runners today.
Down Royal Small bet 13,00 Sammy Smart 16/1 e/w WH, Lads and Coral three places, 14/1 four places others 13,30 Mystical Goddess 10/3 WH and sky, 3/1 others
Hello all, long time. Just saw the news of Alistair Downs passing. An absolutely majestic racing broadcaster in the old channel 4 days and I know was very well thought of by many of you on here. Sporting voices and writers like him are so rare now they are almost mythical- a very sad day for racing indeed. Hope everyone is well
Hi mate really good to hear from you - hope you are doing well? Still in the big city? That's a pretty awful piece of news you've delivered though. Alastair Down was the greatest writer and broadcaster around horse racing for me, his eulogies often moved me to tears. Such a shame there is no one with his talent to pen a suitable obituary. RIP
Re Alistair Down, over the years I have read countless articles and tributes from him. On each and every occasion I always thought to myself, 'if only I was half as clever'... Its a sad day for racing and I hope that tomorrow on ITV it will be a tribute to a punter like us...
Breeders Cup kicks off tonight... About 4 weeks ago I had a post appear on my YT bag and it was a horse called East Avenue winning in USA. Had a little at 5/1.... saving on Hill Road, who has a massive dirt pedigree and apparently has been working the house down 33/1 Bet 365..
Yes indeed, a really sad day for UK and Irish horseracing. Far and away the best writer and broadcaster, as you say, in his chosen profession. He will be greatly missed. R.I.P. Alastair
All well thanks mate hope the same with you Indeed, he was quite incredible with words like you I fondly remember his eulogies and they were a major part of the story telling of racing broadcasting. RIP
14:00 Uttoxeter - J J Moon e/w Class-4 Novices' Hurdle over 2m4f on good ground The Pether's Moon gelding should be well-suited by distance and current track conditions. Needs decent going to give of his best. Thomas Bellamy on board for the Emma Lavelle stable. 6/1 (Wm.Hill/Betfred) best price early-doors, on the ATR site.
Overbet like hell and the SPs do not reflect their ability nor chance. He has the best group of bumper horses ever, so thats what to back, if inclined.
"Taken down early, awkward start and bumped rival start, took keen hold, in touch with leaders, stumbled badly when headway under 2f out, no impression (jockey said colt became unbalanced and stumbled in the dip) (op 13/8)" rather unlucky I would say
Wow, Wow!@!@... Lake Victoria.... buried, nearly put over the rail and clipped heels and still won pulling a bus...
