I don't get it myself. Apart from the noise right outside people's windows, you get crap littered all over the street too, and it's never going to be very impressive anyway when it's just some dad lighting a few rockets he got for £40 in Heron. We've all seen a proper display before.

I think it's best if we look after our residential areas and don't cause problems for the other people who live in them, whether that's needlessly distressing pets or war veterans with PTSD, or leaving dog ****, or letting cats outside to mess everyone's gardens up or anything else.

It was a nice thing to do as a family. Most BBQs are absolute ****e compared to going out to a decent smokehouse restaurant. So why do people still do it?

This is one of the things that triggers me to be honest. Trying to put a stop to something that people enjoy doing as it might distress a pet animal...once a year. Nah.

If it's an issue for war veterans then that is something to be considered. But then garden display was at peak popularity when the country was populated with WW2 veterans. Was it a problem for them? Maybe. But I don't remember it being an issue.

Never liked it as a kid, don’t like it now. Go to get pumpkins so the kids can carve them but apart from that I can’t be arsed with any of it. No idea how people like it more than Christmas.

I'm mostly the same. We always go with the same group of friends to one of these fields where you pick pumpkins. It's a nice day out and we go for lunch and that, and my toddler loves running around the field, but why any of us need all these pumpkins is completely beyond me, and obviously a lot of the appeal of it for some of them is getting pictures for social media. I've gradually convinced my wife to not buy so many now.

If people are enjoying themselves then more power to them. But like you I don't really get it, and certainly can't understand comparing it to Christmas where you get a week off with family, everyone's cheerful and you stuff your face with party food for days on end.

Not everyone gets a week off with family. Even in the1970s you only got 2 days, Xmas Day and Boxing Day off, 4 days if Xmas Day was on a Thursday or a Monday. Seemed more fun when you had to cram everything into a few days instead of it dragging on. The Scots didn’t get Boxing Day off until about 1970 or so when we finally got New Year’s Day off and they got Boxing Day off to keep their number of days off the same as ours.

Well technically we only get three days even now don't we. But a lot of people use leave to take the full week or even more and so it has become a time for slowing down and enjoying life with family. I love that.

I think a lot of companies shut for a week now, my company used to shut for at least ten days over Christmas.
