It's really changed in the last few months.
Mohaather didn't have a winner until the flat season was almost half over.

Pleased that Sands of Mali and Hello Youmzain have done well. The latter may turn out to be Kodiac's future flagbearer.

Not sure what happens with Sands of Mali. He'll be all right for the next couple of years with his 2yos but where is he now?

I felt it was a shame there wasn't some kind of finish to this excellent thread started by pN. She must be very busy so I thought I'd give a end of year tally up on what happened with the FSSs. I hope she doesn't mind.

First of all the data I list here is from the Thoroughbred Stallion Guide online site and covers all Europe and also France and GB/Ireland separately. It is for the whole year of 2024 and so includes post turf season all-weather results (which seem more important now).

First up the whole European picture

Sergei Prokofiev, who led from the start, pulled out a few winners end-season to get home.

    Next the GB/Ire picture

    upload_2025-1-31_23-32-10.png

Sergei Prokofiev did most of his winning in GB/Ire so it's not surprising he's top of this list. It's with comparing his number of wins in GB/Ire with previous champions. 2023 Blue Point 41, 2022 Havana Grey 36 and 2020 Mehmas 46 that you begin to feel uncertain about exactly what he has achieved. These former champions haven't gone away and their produce are still competing in the same races the above FSS are competing in. So it's been tough for 2024 sires and they've all ended up in a clump.

    As ever, France is different

Being based in France Hello Youmzain, who did surprisingly well in GB/Ire, finished top here.

In a years time we may be looking at these sires very differently. It has to be said there were some surprises. Sands of Mali is one. Mohaather went from zero to hero in a matter of weeks and could look even better when we see these horses run as 3yos. Pinatubo must have given Darley some encouragement as there was a fear he may be a flash in the pan: he could still be. Kameko's 2yo results were pleasing. There also seems to be a buzz about Hello Youmzain.

You'll know I'm a fan of Ghaiyyath. He could leapfrog a lot of these when his 3yos really get going.
