A lot of these players were League One footballers. And now they are Premier League. He’s made their careers. It’s not over the top the praise he’s getting.

Not an easy one.Presumably if McKenna went he'd take a good proportion of his coaching staff too. For me it's a three way split between Ashton,KMc (and staff) and the ownership group.The loss of any of the three would have a major impact but individually would the loss of one be disastrous?
It's not gonna happen, there is a rare gelling of all the parts, four if you include the fanbase. The Club is a glorious sum of all its parts, and long may it continue. After several years of mid table respectability, McK may decide to make his ultimate move.
I think it’s an easy one. Ashton has provided McKenna with everything he needs to be successful. Replace McKenna and Ashton will find and back someone else. Under Marcus Evans, McKenna would have been hampered at every turn.
He was fortunate to walk into the club at the time he did. Without Paul Cook’s transfer window, without Blue Action, without Ashton, it wouldn’t have happened this way for him. On the other side of it, I doubt we’d have got back to back promotions, but I’ve no doubt we would have kept improving and climbing the divisions.
I think Ashton and the new ownership can claim a bigger share of the credit from our promotion to the Championship and turning us around to become a more stable, prosperous, and forward-thinking club. However, McKenna and his coaching staff have been the key factor in our promotion to the Premier League. We have not spent massive amounts under the new ownership. McKenna himself has played an important role in helping to push the club to upgrade the facilities, based on his experience at Manchester United and Spurs beforehand. He has also been a key voice in recruitment, probably the main reason he turned down Brighton. I don’t think we would have been promoted last season with any other “realistic” manager. Back-to-back promotions to the Premier League - in this age of parachute payments - is a staggering achievement that I don’t think will be repeated for another couple of decades. McKenna’s coaching and tactical set up, as well as his ability to foster a strong team spirit, were more important in our second promotion. As for the hypothetical “how well would McKenna have done under Evans” argument. The easy way out of that is that McKenna is far too ambitious and far too clever to have accepted a job here under the Evans ownership. He would’ve pursued a better opportunity.
I think this sort of stuff is going to be delayed by a couple of weeks in line with the Premier League season/timescales.
Man United have just sacked Ten Hag. Tuchel and Southgate not an option for them. Surely they won’t come back in for McKenna, will they?
If they’d pay the compensation I’d take it. I think McKenna’s stock has dropped since he flirted with other clubs and the start in the PL we have had. The long expensive contract and splashing cash on transfers may well prove to be a mistake. I wouldn’t object if the owners decide to try to recoup some of those losses and make a change before the stock can drop any further over the next six weeks or so. I very much doubt they will have that option, though.
And mourinho coming out and saying he wants his next club to be in the bottom of the premiership.... Would you swap? Pretty sure utd will stick with van nistelrooy til December and see how he gets on
I think you're right about van Nistelrooy. He'll probably be given several games at least - although he does seem a bit like a Solskjaer type appointment. I would say no to Mourinho - he's washed up at this stage of his career. I don't think he'd work well in our structure. We'd also turn into a media circus, similar to when Roy Keane came in. Although it'd be a great story, given Mourinho's Sir Bobby connections. I think when Mourinho made that comment about managing at the lower level in the Premier League, he was looking more towards the likes of Everton and West Ham. Whoever we appoint as our next manager, it will be another younger, up-and-coming coach. He'll fit better within the wider club structure and historically we seem to only actually get success with managers taking their first or second jobs with us!
You’re safe, Man United have realised that McKenna’s level is the Championship and they’re no longer interested. They’ve also seen his scattergun approach in the transfer market spunking £100m on players like a kid in a candy store with no reason or thought behind it. Add to that the estimated £5m it will have cost you in agent fees.
Sounds a lot like you’re describing Leeds United, except the £100m went on one or two players and not ten.
Yes and we sacked Jesse and Orta the ones responsible, think it was £150m on about 8 players. You’ll probably recoup £40+m on Delap in January, might be handy for your new coach or do you think your board will stick with McKenna no matter what
