. I'm 99.9% certain it was a joke that has been massively taken out of context. I somewhat doubt Jeremy Clarkson is for the ritual slaughter of nurses.
i know he didnt mean it as John Terry didnt mean it but people should put their brain into gear before opening their mouths! - sack em both!
no watfordR its not, of course he never meant it ,just an arsehole trying to be funny and coming up short..my point is that people in the public glare should act a bit wiser.
No. Indeed you could argue what Clarkson said was a lot worse even if it was in jest. However there are similarities in that I believe reactions to both have been incredible. Because if you put both scenarios into context you'll realize that Clarkson was trying to make a joke and the Terry "incident" was right after he and Anton were involved in a tussle in a highly charged atmosphere in front of 18,000 demented people. The PC vultures are having a great time chewing on the carcass of rationality.
Well it was obviously a joke, just an incredibly **** joke. He is entitled to his opinion on the subject of public sector strikers (which I believe to be the wrong opinion), but he doesn't have the intelligence to put his argument across in any way other than being unfunny, offensive, arrogant, obnoxious, brash and smug. It's interesting to have a debate on these issues, but Clarkson doesn't promote debate about the issues at hand, he promotes debate about tastelessness.
I've not got a lot of time for all the petrolspotters who like TopGear, and the best I can wish Clarkson is an early death - but the over-reaction to his obvious joke is depressing.
“I think they (the strikes) have been fantastic. Absolutely. London today has just been empty. Everybody stayed at home, you can whizz about, restaurants are empty,” he said. “It’s also like being back in the 70s. It makes me feel at home somehow,” said the Top Gear presenter, before adding: “But we have to balance this though, because this is the BBC” and went on: “Frankly, I’d have them all shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families. I mean, how dare they go on strike when they have these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed while the rest of us have to work for a living?” When the presenters pointed out that these were Clarkson’s personal views, he said: “They’re not. I’ve just given two views for you.” ................................................................................................................................................................. That's the full context. If you honestly think from that that he's done anything wrong then I feel sorry you. He was taking the piss out of the BBC's impartiality, nothing more. If the media want to take half a comment and ignore the rest then your ire should be with them.
Did you see the whole interview? One comment (OK, an ill-advised one, but still one comment) being quoted out of context, and he's being lambasted by the union bosses - probably for two reasons: firstly, Clarkson knows David Cameron, so he's an easy target; abd secondly, every time they open their mouths, it's all billable time, so they can continue to afford the champagne and caviar lifestyle they lambast the politicians for supposedly having. Watch the whole episode on iPlayer. Then come back and comment. You'll see it was actually very different from what's been in the newspapers.
They are indeed different. Clarkson's was a poorly delivered joke, scripted and approved by the show in advance, and aimed at the poor widdle union members. Terry's was racist abuse delivered in anger, and came from the heart. Your go.....
So tell me - how is what you have just said any different to what he's being quoted as saying (I write it that way because yours is quoted in entirity, whilst he's being partially quoted out of context). Be interested to understand why your saying someone deserves to die shouldn't be treated in the same way you want him to be treated.... And it's 'petrolheads', not 'petrolspotters', just to be pedantic.....
It's relevant too that The One Show was censored recently for giving an undue bias to the Travellers and not having a spokesman from Basildon Council on the relevant show to respond to some pretty outlandish claims by some of the travelling community. This is the balance that Clarkson was talking about, and he agreed what he was going to say with the BBC before the programme went out (albeit he slightly embellished it, which is typical Clarkson). If Russell Brand had made similar remarks about the Countryside Alliance or similar, no one would have batted an eyelid... Those Union leaders are very precious...
I wish Matt Baker, who surely wasn't impressed with Clarkson's right wing posturing, had the balls to finish the interview like he did with Cameron. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=do4yRf71oZM
Jeremy Clarkson is not stupid. He is a private school educated friend of the Prime Minister who is paid a fortune (by taxpayers) to drive cars around and behave like the inbetweeners. He's the bloke in the pub who takes the piss out of everyone else but doesn't actually stand for anything himself. He is also the 'attack dog' of the Conservative party, with a licence to say things Politicians can't, excused apparently because he refuses to grow up and can therefore always claim he's been taken too seriously. He claimed tonight that he discussed his comments before the show with programme makers. I bet he did. He cynically 'praised' the strike because it meant the roads were clear (nod to the motoring lobby) then 'in the interests of balance' he made his comments about the public execution of strikers. He overstepped the mark. His friend Cameron was even forced to disown him. But please don't think he 'made a bad joke'. He is a ****er.
