What a fabulous song that is, he went from canny pop singer to a major performer in a no time. And that passage from Chaplin, wow ... ... we just assumed it was someone like Laurence Olivier.
Sorry to post this but it seems like the most appropriate thread. I've just seen, on Sky News, that 37% of night clubs have closed since 2020. That's horrendous. This is part of the reason music is being transformed into something shallow and bland imo. Massively promoted acts, like Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, etc, are performing in venues that aren't built for music. New acts are finding it difficult to perform because, at the bottom of the ladder, fewer pubs host acts and, further up, the nightclubs are dying out because the 'mega acts' soak up paying customers. Thank heaven's I lived through the years when live music was readily available and people went. Much of the current music has mums & daughters going to sit down venues together watching a show ... ... 'Now that's not what I call Music'
Sad state of affairs. I look at gigs for Newcastle city hall and it's all tribute bands now. Considering it used to be on just about every bands rota to play, it's sad to see what's it's become. The Arena, had a look on there and there's hardly any music acts booked at all. There's the Academy, but being smaller, any half decent bands sell out straight away. I could go to Wembley to see AC/DC, or West ham stadium to see Iron Maiden for example, but these stadium gigs have no appeal to me at all. I just don't see the appeal of having to watch it all on a big screen, might as well stay in and watch a live DVD. You've been spoilt though working at Rock City, seeing some class bands on their way up....I would have loved that. My worst nightmare now would be sitting through two hours of Adele or Ed bloody sheeran at some soulless stadium.
Adele is a decent singer with a few good tunes but she's a 'Las Vegas' residency act these days ... ... that's selling out just like players who go to Saudi.
Absolutely on the nail Snaggey. I’ve had some great nights at NCH and similar venues up and down the country.
He has some cracking songs, this is one of my favourites of his. Saw him live a couple of times, you don't realise how strong his accent is until he's live and a pissed on stage
The latest Hallowe’en special from Broken Peach. There is something about this band that makes me want to keep on watching their videos.
