We've played the current top 2 and really looked on the same page. We have 1 more point and about 5 less conceded than I expected so defensively it's progress. Now to the problem that Rosenior, Shota, McCann, Adkins had. How do you balance taking risk going forward and keeping the door shut at the back? For all the talk of philosophies, styles etc it all comes back to the same. We still need to score more than the opposition, more often than not to be one of the lucky 3. And we're behind last season on that. And we had Twine and Lokilo and Allsop as regulars at this point last year. Next 3 are massive. But I've seen progress in the last 2 defensively, For the most part.
Nothing to do with being a Hull lad. He slipped for their goal (suspect he had the beating of him anyway tbf), but was otherwise very solid defensively and offered a lot in attack again, capped off by the last second goal line clearance,
He redeemed himself a couple of times after the slip, I thought. Wasn't my top 3, but wasn't a ridiculous shout for a mention. Just some folk need a scapegoat. If Giles was really pushing on the left and it was a toss up between Coyle and Drameh for the right then there would be a decision to he made, but he's not, so there isn't.
To be fair to Giles he's not been given the opportunity to push for a start, how many minutes has he had at left back since Drameh came in?
Drameh Hughes Puerta them 3 completely different class, Belloumi/Slater special mentions. not convinced on Simon’s on the ball and don’t think I ever will be.
Drameh Hughes Puerta Honourables for everyone else. A mistake cost us the 2 points though. Slater dispossessed far too easily in the build up to their equaliser. Cut these mistakes out and we'll win more games.
Hughes - Commanding display - particularly 2nd half Puerta - Ran the midfield -particularly 1st half Drameh - kept driving us forward and supported Kamara well - especially 1st half
Drameh (from someone who's said they want a LB playing at LB!). Hughes Slater Nods to Coyle (bar the slip, but superb first half and helped save us last minute), Kamara & Belloumi.
Drameh - despite being played out of position Hughes - another powerful performance Puerta - another good performance
