Recently there was an article on the Sunderland board regarding expectations with MON at the helm. The argument was put forward that these expecations would be huge. An argument, which I feel is unfounded, but that isn't the point of this thread.

While MON doesn't have the weight of success at the club, he is still a proven manager and it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect otherwise of his future performance. Furthermore, the low ebb at the club caused by Bruce can only make his job easier, a job that a manager the calibre of MON should easily achieve. These expectations are NOT therefore unreasonable.

For Newcastle and Pardew on the other hand, could things be different? Pardew has steered Newcastle to a relative lofty position, something for which the fans can be immensely proud of. However, the question is not can this be sustained? Rather, does this now put immense pressure on the players and manager to maintain current form? In a season where another mid-table finish would have sufficed, could the short term success lead to future instability if any weakness emerges, with an owner as unpredictable as Ashley, only a fool would rule this out.

We don't expect top 6 and neither do the players. I think this posistion has relieved any pressure they had at the start of the season.

We are at the top on merit but as fans are realistic and we will finish lower that 3rd at the end of the season for sure.
    4th is my guess :1980_boogie_down:

There can be no doubts that some pressure has bee relieved, but in turn has this created a new, different sort of pressure?

Short of Pardew getting the sack (unlikely given length of contract) - No, I don't think it does.

We all understand that we have a small squad and I would be happy with a top half finish, which would signal improvement. For now, just happy the team have managed to do so well for the first third of the season. Immensely proud of the team, staff and Pardew.

    Howay the lads.

I don't know anyone who seriously thinks that we will sustain a top 4 place or even top 6.

Just enjoying it while it lasts, as this season we have already exceeded my expectations.

I expect us to progress most season on the previous season's finish, though after our start this year I know expect us to finish in the top 7, though probably 7th.

If we finish any lower than 4th you'll be looking for a new user name.

Enjoying the ride, tired of making predictions, just taking every game as it comes. You have to live match-to-match with idiots like Mike and Dekka in charge tbh. But I trust Pardew to manage his players, I trust Carr to find players and I trust the players to do their job on the pitch and try their hardest. Overall that's the best assessment of Newcastle United I've been able to give since Sir Bobby was in charge.

Avoid relegation, but just to stay up this year, preferably not on the last game of the season as we have Man U, so i want us to be safe 3-4 games from the end. (top 10 would be nice and its not impossible, we are only 6 points off 7th now)

Little FA Cup run, depends on the draw obviously but no getting knocked out by lower league opposition, not expecting a final or winning the thing, but just something to keep us ticking over and bring a smile back onto the fans faces.

Make the SOL a fortress again.

I think fans' response will depend on the nature of our performances for the rest of the season. There will be no backlash against a slide down the table as a result of losing to better teams, if the performances remain committed (as at City, for example).

If we struggle because of an ninjury crisis, there is likely to be a backlash against Ashley's perceived failure to back Pardew n the market - even more so if key players are sold and not properly replaced.

The fans know we have over-achieved so far, and will not be angry if that does not continue, provided the players keep grafting and the manager's hands are not tied behind his back.

Our expectations this season are 7th place. Its the clearest expectations we have had since promotion form the Championship.

Their is no team outside the top 6 that are better than us. We already have a much more superior points tally.

Sunderland will instantly improve with MON in charge. Mid table for them.

Its certainly easier picking up the pieces and imposing your style and drive to an already broken team imo, especially as the squad MoN inherits, despite my wanting rid of Bruce, half decent to be honest.

Pardew will have to deal with Ashley again looking for some Christmas pocket money and adjusting to that demand on his team. Can he keep the run going? Maybe he can and a top 4 finish is possible both mathmatically it is very possible and credibilty wise it is but then so is us ending the season on 86 points but its not going to happen.

Newcastle have history of throwing away big leads of course and as the winter kicks in, the Africans Cup demands and the January Sales start, they will have to be very resiliant indeed to maintain the gap. The chasing pack will out on the pressure and as we saw last season, once the gap starts to narrow, arses start to putt and none of the newcastle squad are experienced of being at the top of the tree are they?

I still think its yours to throw away but as the next few weeks kick in and the MoN effect seeps through who knows what will happen.

My expectations btw for MoN are to see him transfrom us into a very decent EPL football team over the next 2 or 3 years. Mind you, I imagine these are the minimum targets he has for himself as well.

I expect at least an improvement on last years finish.

I'm a big believer in Kaizen.

Its all well and good the fans being accpeting, but would that be matched personnel within the club? I'm not convinced they would be.

Top 4, no. Manchester clubs, Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea will over the course of a season finish above us, no doubt about that. 10th will do me, but I believe we are capable of 7th, even 6th if Liverpool continue to play poorly against the lower teams. Anywhere in the bottom half and I'll be absolutely gutted. (Oh and on the side, get rid of that top dog in the north east tag being claimed by the mackems <whistle> )

Newcastle United must win the PL.

If this is not achieved then the entire board must be sacked.
