Here we are then, all in after what seems like a long break. There are only six games to come before we're into the next international break. That will be odd with two England games (Greece away and RoI at home) under a manager who isn't the manager. There's a nice dose of uncertainty on the Super Match as intended although I'm surprised 4 are going for a home win for Leeds against Sheffield United, who've taken 16 points from their last 6 games. There are three jokers on it too, all for home wins...... Everyone's gone for a Middlesborough home win but there are no jokers on it at all! That's not unreasonable... Middlesborough look stronger over the last 6 games but more recently, they've lost 2 of their last 4. Bristol City on the other hand are unbeaten in their last 4, albeit with one win and 3 draws. There's a nice even curve on the goal times, although Joe and Lyndhurst are shoulder to shoulder. Good luck to you all and especially to me.
We haven't quite finished the current round yet but the next one covers Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and the one after that begins on Friday! One notable thing I can tell you is the Joe got the goal time spot on. Match scores are looking good for Away, Plym and Sensible, rather less so (i.e. not even the same number of digits) for Joe Musty and me. At close of business today, all clubs will have played 10 games, so one fifth of the season will be behind us. So, next time out we'll have two Super Matches, one at the top, Blackburn (6th, 18 points) versus West Brom (5th, 18 points) and one at the bottom Cardiff (22nd, 8 points) versus Portsmouth (23rd, 8 points). Portsmouth beat QPR yesterday but I don't know how Cardiff got on. Or don't want to know. In case you have some spare time this afternoon, here's the match text. It's in a extra large font especially for Lyndhurst. Joe still to come as far as I can see..... We're heavily tilted to home wins in the two Super Matches which is once again surprising given I picked them to be evenly balanced. Leeds and Burnley are the other two strongly tipped to win. Only two jokers on Super Matches, Sensible on Cardiff to win and Lyndhurst on Blackburn. Interesting move by Lyndhurst, taking the first goal into the second half. I've assumed a goal time for Plym: he hasn't given one but 45 minutes is very much his standard offering.
I switched those Wednesday games off globally, I will have to check. Normally, it would consider empty entries as 0-0’s and score them accordingly. That would be a particular problem if there was a set of less than 12 games as we used to have midweek. A similar problem arises if someone fails to submit a forecast for one or more games. So, each global and individual sheet has switches that are normally set to “1” as a multiplier to make the related calculation work normally. If changed to “0”, it multiplies in the scoring to switch the scoring off for that match. That means I can switch games and/or individuals off globally or individually as required. Similarly, there are switches which are normally “1” that can be set to “2” to produce double-points or super-match scores. My initial thought, without checking, is that because Musty didn’t submit scores for a couple of weeks while he was in Bali, I’ve incorrectly switched his scoring back ON by over-writing what should be conditional formulae reading a global switch from elsewhere in the model with a hard-coded “1”, meaning his scoring is permanently “on”. That worked at the weekend when all 12 matches were “on” but it hasn’t now picked up that the Wednesday matches are switched off globally to produce a half-way result. It is possible to protect formulate and tables so that they can’t be edited without first switching the protection off. I haven’t bothered to do that as I’m the only one who uses the spreadsheet. Now you did ask me “why”, so I have told you! And before you ask. I’m up so early because we have the Door Doctor arriving at the uncivilised hour of 8 am to fix various window related issues. So if I want breakfast and access to a bathroom, I need to crack on!
