Okay, well let’s start with Leonardo Jardim. Or Mark Van Bommel. Or let’s go mad and throw some money Massimiliano Allegri’s way. We won’t get him, but we could get one of the first two. That’s without thinking too hard about it. Edit: if we want to sort out our defence, Cannavaro.
He’s an interesting manager, obviously he’s a well connected guy … weirdly…. Doesn’t feel very Saintsy in terms of an appointment…. But I guess, if you don’t ask, you don’t get. I like the look of Will Still at Reims and he seems a more Saintsy prospect in terms of being a flexible tactician and working on a limited set of resources. Terzic I can’t figure out; “successful” ish and reasonable track record in terms of being a number two…. But out of work…??… can’t see why necessarily but maybe the out of work bit would suit us..??
Yeah. I mean Allegri isn’t, but money talks, and we could pay someone like Hoeness a whole lot more than Stuttgart can.
Yeah I guess it depends on the person. As I said before I can’t see how anyone could look at us as anything but a poisoned chalice atm and can definitely see someone viewing us as career suicide. To me that leaves 2 categories of manager, the “won’t get another chance so may as well go for it” type like Jones was or the “one last payday” type like Moyes Feels like far too much risk for a younger promising manager, but as you say some of them may only look at the £££
I hear you, but that’s also why we need to move sooner rather than later. If they aren’t sounding out possibles already, then I don’t know what to think really.
Yeah… I suspect for the comparative money we could offer, that might not be an issue…. But who knows…??
Os made a good point earlier about how much money we have. In 2 and a bit seasons we are on the 4th manager since SR came in. I’m sure Jones and Hassenhuttl pay offs weren’t insignificant. Selles wouldn’t have been much, but if SR are accepting of relegation this year then maybe they just let Martin see out the year to save on sacking him and whatever pay off that will involve, especially with the utterly stupid decision to give him an extra year in the summer. Plus if you bring someone in soon then that gives them roughly 30 games to manage in the PL. I’m sure fans will want them gone if we get relegated so potentially another pay off in the not so distant future as well. Of course the plan would be that whoever they bring in would keep us up, but I’d be shocked if they didn’t consider that as a possible outcome
Honestly think this might be what they do. In their minds they’ll be thinking Martin will learn loads from his stint in the PL. Then they’ll expect us to win the championship and come straight back up
I see that the currently available Rafa Benitez is on MOTD2 tonight. I wonder if that's him (or his agent) wanting to get his face back out there.
Which, if it is the case, furthers the view that they know the square root of **** all about football. Martins stock with the fans will be non existent when we get relegated with the lowest ever points total. In fact I give it 3 more games before it turns totally poisonous as it is. These guys are total ****ing clowns. The only potential way to stop all this nonsense is for new owners. I desperately wish they'd sell.
Obviously have no idea how termination works when it comes to manager contracts/how it appears on the books from a PSR perspective, but could be that him just running a year off his contract then we sack him at the end of the season helps in some way with that. As I said before they surely have to consider the (large) possibility that if they bring someone in now they could be sacking him as well, maybe even before the end of the season a la Jones
The worst part was giving him a new contract before seeing how he does in the PL. Vast majority were sceptical at best that his version of football would work in the PL when our players are worse than everyone else’s. Fair to give him a go in the PL, but why oh why not wait to give him a new contract until you’ve seen whether he’s ready for the PL or not. Just throwing away budget. Going back down and attempting to start another promotion push with RM is a totally different position to when he came in fresh to sort a mess of a team out. Another in the long list of bad decisions by SR. Despite their obviously good intentions, they are a bit **** at this football ownership stuff.
I think they'd struggle to keep him the whole season if we carried on at a similar trajectory tbh. Only so much fan pressure you can ignore and he'll lose the players at some point too.
I think there are two choices. 1. Sack him now and give a new manager a chance to turn the team around and somehow stay up. 2. Stick with him until we are so far adrift/relegated and then replace him and give the new guy time to work with the squad, be here for the summer transfer window and pre-season and give him the best possible chance of having the squad functioning in time for the next season. I have said before. Teams are wise to his style of play and we may not have the quality in the squad to yo-yo back up playing his high risk way, although we have strikers with good records in the Championship. It would be good to have a manager that can defend.
