Watched a bit of the post match analysis and our game management is impressive We restricted them to very few chances. Mephams comments were really interesting on how we prepped to manage a very erratic / potentially dangerous Hull team. The longer players can last in a match the better. Lots of games coming up and we’ll see if he starts to rotate more
So there! Sunderland defender Luke O'Nien speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a good performance. Credit to the staff, we worked on transition this week in terms of every time the ball drops, just spin it in behind. "And Wilson [Isidor] is so fast. Honestly, he burns us all in training and he got his just rewards for working really, really hard. "Great finish, especially running away from their full-back because he's fast as well. That was some goal from him." On the referee getting in the way before the goal: "I thought the ref was great. I thought it was good positioning from him. "To be honest with you, I haven't seen it. I didn't know he was in the way. But it wouldn't matter, Wilson's that fast, no one is catching him."
The Hull supporters really need to show some dignity and accept their player had the ball, lost the ball and paid the price. The referee has to stand somewhere and Hull knew exactly where he was before they kicked the ball towards him ... ... if they didn't they shouldn't be playing football tbh.
What was the Sky guy expecting 09 to say....oh yes,the Ref helped us massively and we didn't deserve to score 70 yards away at the other end of the pitch.....makes me wonder how these interviewers keep their jobs.
Sunderland defender Chris Mepham speaking to Sky Sports: "I think you've got to be patient because they're a team that wants to have a lot of the ball and they're a difficult team to press because they're quite random at times. "So we knew we would have to be patient without the ball but I think in the end we looked dangerous and up the other end, we were pretty solid today. It always gives you a good foundation to go and hurt them on the other side." On winning today after losing the last two away games: "It's massive. It's a long season so it's not the be all and end all. "But it shows where we are at the minute. We are a good team, we're progressing well and coming away from home against a good side like this isn't an easy task, so it's a massive three points."
Gary Bennett Ex-Sunderland defender on BBC Radio Newcastle That's an excellent result. There are loads of positives out of that game. The first 30 minutes we were too comfortable and we needed to be ruthless. But what a goal by Isidor. He ran 40 to 50 yards but his composure to dink it over the goalkeeper. And what did Patterson have to do in that 90 minutes? The only criticism you could have is could we be more ruthless around their 18-yard box? But you've got to say, that is a well-earned win and three points for the team today. Chris Mepham is my man of the match today. Composure, calmness, responsibility, he had it all. Can't add much more tbh
Can tell the quality of a centre half when they only go to ground when absolutely necessary. Top class.
Walter definitely didn't shake RLBs hand after the game. The bloke needs to seriously grow up and realise he's the problem. Pathetic. Show some ****ing respect.
Loved this quote on the BBC match thread. “Anthony Patterson in the Sunderland goal has had nothing to do - he's probably had busier Sunday afternoons having his roast dinner.”
Absolutely no excuse, what the ref does has nothing to do with our manager ... ... if he somehow manages to cling on until February we should absolutely boo him back to Hull. please log in to view this image
Just in from a day on the lash watching the match, my take is we are class, RLB is class, Wilson is Class, RTBs threads are class and I love Sunderland AFC ! We are top of the league and deserve it because we are class Goodnight lads and lasses
Dont know where the controversy is. They took a short corner from the training ground. Player actually passed the ball toward the ref, knowing that their player would have been positioned directly behind him, expecting the ref to step out of the way, which he did! A risk he was obviously willing to take. Anyway, ref steps out of the way. At the very most the ref may have possibly created a little indecision for the receiving player, it may have put the brakes on their attacking intent, ruined their set piece, but the player had time to sort it out. In the end we didnt score due to the refs positioning, we scored because the Hull player hit the ball directly towards the ref, possibly causing indecision but not causing the receiving player to **** up like he did. If the ref had sympathised with Hull and halted our counter i would have been ****ing furious.
Got to love the dink. https://x.com/bryansgunn/status/1770886742603661500?t=ei48wgyaF2Lhc4lHxqevjQ&s=19
