Nice one! I think Drameh is a real problem at LB. So right footed - he is constantly forced inside into trouble and although he can drive forward he never provides the option of an overlap.
My prediction at the beginning of season was somewhere in between 18th and 21st, very close to relegation zone so not surprised.
Nobody is trying to mask anything, the refs 2 complete and utter **** ups massively influenced the game. He's gets them or even one of them correct and the games totally different. Nobody can hide behind a poor ref performance when you get absolutely tonked or played of the park, but today we didn't and for large parts we were the better team. The are apparently the top team in our league ATM and we matched them for parts of the game and were better for parts.
I didn't say he was out of his depth, I said his tactics aren't working. Nor did I say we would need to overpay, the original point was that "nobody was available", which isn't the case to a club with an owner like ours who can pay compensation. Rosenior had very little experience in the Championship and got us up there, perhaps slightly underperforming, why does it have to be some massive name from elsewhere? Rob Edwards did well at Forest Green, **** out at Watford and then took Luton up. Heckingbottom came off the back of four crap months at Leeds followed by a less than impressive stint at Hibs before taking Sheffield United to the Premier League. We keep taking punts on these novelty managers who seem to specialise more in "innovation" than tactics that actually work in the Championship. Out of the four managers that have worked under Acun, only Rosenior has come close to adapting to the Championship and even then he underperformed. Whoever and whenever the next manager is, can it please be somebody ****ing boring but at least knows how to get results in this league without some eccentric, esoteric style that's as baffling to watch as it must be to play in.
I agree we didn't look defensively frail. But I disagree that it was an acceptable home performance. We didn't trouble their keeper once and I thought Mehlem was a liability in midfield today, the way that the wingers and full backs tuck in (and granted, Kamara looked arse so it didn't help the cause) leaves so much space in the wide areas. Sunderland passed up some good opportunities, but we didn't really create anything outside of Bedia hitting the bar and as the home team that's a real problem. It's not a new problem, either. Puerta, Zambrano and Palmer (Abdus for Palmer if he's fit) to start in the midfield for Burnley I reckon.
Referee apologised' - manager reaction Hull City head coach Tim Walter told BBC Radio Humberside: "I went to the referee's room and they apologised for the situation but for me it's frustrating because he should know how we play and find another position at a set-piece. "The referee invited me in to apologise but it doesn't help me. "But we had a lot of situations in the first half and a lot of counter situations but our last decision wasn't the best. "We created many chances but we weren't clinical enough and maybe lost our heads in the last five minutes. "We had more courage in the second half and we showed we can maybe be on the same page as them." Sunderland head coach Regis le Bris: "It's difficult to win away, especially at Hull. In the first half, we dominated the ball but failed to break the final third. "The scenario in the second half was different, they kept the ball and it was not easy to deal with the way they build up the game and we did well. "The momentum was with them and they had a big chance to score and they didn't. We were prepared to use our counter attacks as we had that strength and Wilson made the difference."
Id be inclined to agree but it generally felt today as if they didn’t get out of 2nd gear and kept us at arms length really. Our midfield just doesn’t win the second or third ball that well at key moments.
I’m a little surprised by the reaction from many on here, I thought you played really well (I’m a Sunderland fan) and looked far more balanced than what I’ve seen in your previous games (I’ve seen at least 5 of your matches). Fine margins and if your final ball had been better on a couple of your breaks in the first half it could have been a very different game. You should feel aggrieved with the referee too but only for missing the handball and not sending Mepham off at the end of the first half, not his ‘part’ in our goal. He did little wrong there and you should be more angry at Mehlem (?) for the way he lost the ball and your tactics of having your last man 35 yards from the opposition goal (when will you/Walter learn from this?!). There was a moment in the first half when the ref practically tackled Dan Neil for us (though not touching the ball), he was as a result dispossessed and you broke on us but it didn’t materialise into anything, Madley was completely consistent in letting the play in our goal progress in the same way he had your chance.
Wasn't that ref demoted from the Prem League for being CRAP ? Huddersfield/Cambridge/Fleetwood...Its over to you....
So I’ve calmed down a little now. The ref was a clown and one of the linesman wasn’t much better. Im starting to have doubts about Walter. I counted nine times in the first half where their number 10 was completely unmarked by either Dremeh or Kamara, and it only looked a matter of time that one of their crosses by him was going to pay dividends. Walter seemed completely oblivious to it. Our midfield looks non existent whoever plays there. It must be tactical that our only route to attack comes from the flanks. Acun seems to have acquired a competent squad but Walter is starting to sound like Rosie now. Not been clinical enough. Trusting in the system etc etc. But bringing another manager in at this stage means the season is finished in terms of challenging top half.
We are upset because I think that is the 4th time we have conceded that same goal from our own corner from totally unnecessary kamikaze set up with our last man back at the edge of your D. At 0-0 on 62 minutes it’s just an utterly stupid thing to do, but I suppose it’s better than about 15 minutes when we gifted that goal to Sheffield United.
Because he should have learned your team’s set piece routines? I think Walter is talking nonsense on that.
