Blackburn v Swansea Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Ewood Park Date - 19 October 2024 Kick off - 3pm Following their hard fought home draw against Stoke - the first goalless match between the two teams since 1962 - next up for Luke Williams’ Swansea squad is a difficult looking trip to Lancashire to play Blackburn Rovers. Two weeks ago, the Swans managed to maintain their unbeaten home record in the Championship this season but they were unable to find a way past Stoke City in a frustrating goalless draw. The Swans had the greater share of chances in an open first half, the best of which saw Eom Ji-sung slam a shot against the underside of the crossbar. The hosts continued to squander opportunities after the break, while Stoke could have snatched victory had Tom Cannon not fired straight at Lawrence Vigouroux when he was through on goal. Cannon had another chance to win the game with three minutes left but saw his shot cleared off the line by Ben Cabango. So, a first goalless draw in 41 meetings between the teams saw the Swans move up one place to 11th in the Championship table, while Stoke remained 15th. Whilst the Swans were drawing with Stoke, ex-Swan Morgan Whittaker's dramatic 97th-minute winner saw Plymouth beat Blackburn after home boss Wayne Rooney was sent off. Blackburn thought that they had grabbed a point through Joe Rankin-Costello's late equaliser, which saw Rooney shown a red card in the aftermath, only for Whittaker to head home in the final seconds. Rooney appeared to think there had been a foul in the build-up to Blackburn's leveller and remonstrated with the fourth official. The former England captain was then sent to the stands by referee James Linington following a heated exchange. The two late goals followed another ex-Swan Michael Obafemi hammering home his first strike in a Plymouth shirt. The result moved Argyle up five places to 14th in the table, while Blackburn slipped one spot to eighth. The Swans have played Blackburn on 51 previous occasions, winning 18, drawing 8 and losing 25. In the corresponding match last season, the Swans ran out 1-0 winners, recording in the process their first win at Blackburn in 52 years: The Swans will be without Eom who was injured on international duty, whereas for Blackburn, full-back Callum Brittain and forward Harry Leonard have both returned to training during the international break and are set to feature for the club's under-21s against Benfica in the Premier League International Cup tonight (Thursday). In addition, Wales Under-21 international Owen Beck will also be available for the home side at Ewood Park after serving a three-match suspension following the red card he received during Blackburn's 0-0 draw with Preston North End on 22 September. Given that we rarely play well after an international break, I think that Blackburn will prove too strong and will run out comfortable 2-0 winners. Hope I’m wrong
Our problem is scoring. If they go ahead we're sunk, and I think they will. Can't argue with Taff's prediction.
Another 1-0 away defeat 3 successive games without a goal. Sign Trundle and play him for last 20-25 minutes: the kids can do the running for him, he knows where the net is
Saw the last 25 minutes. Good end to end for the neutral. We had a good go at the end but not enough quality. One thing I always think... we put in 100% trying to keep possession in front of goal under enormous pressure, why the hell can't we do the same but in midfield instead?! We get it in midfield and it usually goes backwards.
Soton lost 2-3 after being 2 up. Jordan Ayew scored the winner in the 98th minute. Will Russ be in charge for the next game?
We've played 10 league games and scored 8 goals. Cardiff scored 5 yesterday. Borja Sainz of Norwich has scored 7 so far this season. We just don't score enough goals to do anything in this league.
Never been happy with LW appointment. Yet if I remember correctly his team at Notts County scored for fun.
I'd rather see trundle coming off the bench for last 20 too ! Instead of Joe who's maybe past his best ? A cocky confident goal hungry player up front is needed badly instead of what we've got upfront and loaned out ! Defence is even worst ! Mid table if lucky atm .
