I said the other day that whilst I don't see us being able to attract him (as much as I would like him, even before today), I am struggling to see any viable options - at least in this country - which might interest him. United aren't going to appoint him. West Ham I'm sure will continue to give Lopetegui (they have a lot of new signings to integrate). And everyone else above the bottom four is doing fine. As you allude to, there comes a point where he needs to choose someone.
Same here. Doubt he would come though. We are a ****ing basket case. Tbf, Martin said the players weren’t were they were supposed to be for the corner at the end. So a lot is down to the players. But his subs and tactics were awful today
There is definitely something in this - I think they would be mad to get rid of Glasner but if Palace don’t pick up soon they could be in the market for a new manager and that is a lot more attractive proposition than us.
I know you and others think otherwise, but I think we could attract Moyes. But I think the others down the bottom could too - I don't see any PL club who wouldn't interest him (except maybe a third stint to West Ham!). I obviously have no idea if the board want him or not. But if they do, they might want to get a move on.
Apart from the managerial situation, I actually think the club is in a healthy place. We have a committed, seemingly passionate billionaire owner, and our academy looks to be in good shape. I also think we have a decent enough squad to make a fight of it, and if we go down, to bounce back up at the first attempt. We just need to find the right manager, which is something unfortunately SR really struggle with.
The thing I would say about Martin is that he has some very good qualities but has been tactically "found out" a bit this season. Whether the owners want to ride along with him and see if it improves or go for a new face remains to be seen but I suspect it will be the latter.
Three things happened today, which collectively have led to me wanting Martin gone. Tonight would be fine. Firstly, obviously, blowing a 2-0 lead to a relegation rival. Second, being tactically outclassed by an opposition manager. Thirdly, falling seven points behind 16th - which is a big gap for any struggling side. The only consolation is that it's 16th place, not 17th place. Three points to 17th is by no means terminal, not by a long way. I said in the summer that I thought Leicester got very, very lucky to have Maresca taken from them. His style is so similar to Martin's, that I could have easily seen their season go just as badly as ours if they had kept him. But by losing him, it gave them a free shot at bringing in a more pragmatic manager. They're only three points behind 8th, and that's not a surprise to me. I'm not saying that Cooper was a guarantee of survival (from from it), but their chances of doing so increased significantly by appointing him. Whereas for us, because no-one took Martin, we were essentially stuck for him for the initial period of this season. Yes in theory the board could have sacked him after Wembley - and I still maintain that would have been the best decision - but it would have been incredibly harsh. Way more so than when we sacked Adkins, and that was pretty darn harsh (but also correct). If the board had sacked him, they could have only defended that decision if we'd ultimately survived in the PL. I just don't think it was ever viable that we would have sacked him before giving him a chance in the PL, and I totally understand that. Wrong decision (and not even in hindsight) but one which I apportion zero blame on the board. I get it. But I did say that once the gap starts to open up, it would be time. And that gap, at least to 16th anyway, is now there. So it is time.
The annoying thing is he was tactically found out in the same way many times last season, but we extended his contract for no reason. Was a barmy decision. Now we are in a horrific situation (I assume we will have to pay him a fortune if we get rid). We could have gone into this season and given him a 10 game trial period. Peak sports republic
Forget the criminality of the officiating today. The more criminal thing would be for Martin to not be gone this weekend.
A bit "knee jerkish" from me, but time is up as far as I am concerned, if you cannot manage a team to defend a two goal lead, then there isn't much hope for the future of this side,.at this level, it needs a complete turn around of tactics and attitudes, and players to play his way. RM is too set in his ways, it migtht be better for him to find another Club which will play to his tune. . I doubt that there is a Manager out there that will do any bettter with this squad, but there is no harm in trying.
Not sure why anyone thinks we will stay up this season. We should now be thinking about best option to bounce back
We have never been able to defend a two goal lead, what about Leeds, Trannere, Watford ( over two legs). It is not new. I do hate how reactionary as a society we are now and the abuse we give to some people. He may not be up too it, but we are hardly very emphatic and patience.
I'd be a bit surprised if the owners do nothing having spent quite a lot of money. If the only objective is to stay up this season then we need an experienced manager and David Moyes would be my choice.
I don't think he'd take it. Not really got a Moyes squad and why would he take the risk of adding another relegation to his CV when his stock is the highest it's been in a decade?
Publicly blaming others is so wrong in my eyes. It's not the first time, he's thrown a player under the bus! Tick tock, time to go Rus
25 unbeaten will become 25 without a (Prem) win in 4 games time. That's like sliding from the top of Everest to the depths of the Mariana Trench.
