Thought that last year, thought that at season start; still think now. Nice bloke. No credentials for PL.
Don’t disagree with the first bit but he & his tactics (with these players) are totally out of touch with survival. Edit: And that’s the goal, not to have a squad & mgr for next year. That drives me ****ing nuts!
Let’s see. Do I hope that a manager that doesn’t know his best team, ignores the strengths and weaknesses of the squad, has 1 point from 21, plays boring, ridiculous football stays Hmmm
The worrying thing is SR didn’t seem to see this and gave him a new contract. So far all their crucial decision making suggests they are not suitable PL club owners.
Kept us up though didn’t he? Didn’t spend much but bought us a PL striker in Ings, who scored the goals to keep up
I’m not sure why some seem to think this is an interview that means if we lose today he’s out . He just seems to be confirming what has been said before . IMHO their board have decided to stick with him for the next 2 seasons ( yes even if we get relegated ) . Not saying I like it , but that is the way I see it .
This 100% Lots of media puff pieces this week are showing us that he's here to stay. He's not shifting from his style of play, so enjoy the Russ Martin experience ladies and gents.
I don’t think anyone would expect him to completely shift to, say, Sean Dycheball. After all the vast majority of teams play the way Martin likes to play, his is just at the very top end of that “possession” spectrum. He acknowledges it needs tweaks in his latest interview, but says you can’t move away from your beliefs and fundamentals to something completely different. How far he moves from his preferred suicide ball is what we need to see, can still play a possession way but be far less risky than we currently are. Not saying that we will survive doing it but it hopefully won’t be as annoying giving goals to the opposition every game
Said it before and I'll say it again. Gao was a crook who should have been nowhere near our football club. Let's not forget he initially failed the notoriously hard to fail fit and proper owners test and only overturned that decision through a technicality. A technicality that all clubs INCLUDING US voted to remove almost immediately afterwards. This revisionist notion that he wasn't that bad is ridiculous imo. And that's without even getting into the LD Sports fiasco.
Feels do or die today, at least from a fans perspective. Needs to be a win. I feel the club might be a bit more lenient though.
1 point from those who have come up with us this season at home is not good enough, lose today and the axe really does come down I think.
Eh? I never mentioned anything about investment? I'm saying he was a crook and never should have been allowed to take over the club at all.
It's an interesting one. Gao wasn't a good owner, but, to his credit, he did let those running the club get on with it. He didnt interfere like the current rabble. I didn't like them much, but Semmens & Steele did keep us going under difficult circumstances. SR came in, ****ed everything up ... replaced key staff, forced others out and it all went to ****. To their credit, they're not scared to invest money into the club ... but its not spent wisely. That's not to say the previous regime were perfect in that regard, they weren't. But they were doing enough to keep us up as a PL club.
I get your point Libby , I was just asking about investment . I imagine if you didn’t want him anywhere near the club , the rest doesn’t matter ( in this specific instance ) ?
