For anyone interested in where the Z cars theme originates, it's an old English folk song/sea shanty called Johnny Todd. This is Dylan's version
I was working at Rock City and Iggy Pop was booked. Even though it was a massive sell out I asked for the night off so I could just be there in the audience. I didn't want to miss a second of the show having to work and handle the crowd surfers, stage invaders and fights. The manager thought I was mad but gave me the night off so I took my brother-in-law who I went with to various gigs, mainly Punk groups like the Stranglers, Damned, Siouxsie, etc. He eventually came on stage after 11pm, absolutely wrecked and much worse than he appears in this video. He completely trashed the stage, managed a couple of songs and lasted twenty minutes before telling the crowd to F*CK OFF!!! I had to quickly go to my locker, put on my 'security' shirt, which I still have, and help the lads keep control of the club. People were going nuts and trying to wreck the place as they'd been looking forward to the gig for months. In some ways it was a total disaster but, to be honest, was the perfect 'Iggy Pop gig' and anarchy beyond anything the Sex Pistols every managed. The man is totally unique, something most performers will never ever be.
one of my favorite songs. They've got at least 100 tracks...not one bad song as far as I'm concerned.
Love this song, was obsessed with the album in my early 20s. Iggy Pop on the backing vocals...makes the tune!
Sorry to keep posting stories of Rock City but these clips keep bringing back wonderful memories. Beyond all reason The Cure was one of the favourite acts at the club, for the Hell's Angels. They handled the loading of the artics and The Cure always brought loads of gear, so they may have just been well paid. But they seemed to really get along with the lads in the band, roadies, management, etc. And the band were there almost every year so got to know us all. I'll shut up now
Keep it up, mate. That's insightful... of all the bands that went through the doors of rock city I would have never had The Cure down as one of the HAs faves...I'd of maybe guessed about the gear, mind
Cheesy song, yeah, maybe...but...it's a monumental tune! Absolutely love it, myself! Deserves it's place in the list of best songs ever, for me!
Fabulous drumbeat, totally uplifting and a joyful video ... ... a truly underrated band imo. There isn't a single 'boy band' song that comes close to this.
