Really hope Tuchel has thick skin, our wonderful press will tear him apart the minute he puts a foot wrong. And if he does win the WC for us I hope shoves it up as many press arses as he can find.
I get that, but part of multiculturalism is the struggle to put a line in the fans when it comes to heritage. Should those in England with foreign parents be unable to represent their parents nation? I've no idea, and then does it go to grandparents, how many, what percentage etc. I would like a clamp down on this **** though. Not for those with distinct heritage but do you remember Manuel bloody Almunia talking about playing for England ffs! However, it's pretty clear that not even Tuchels Yemenese Digit would have him be England boss if there were any form of nationality rule in place.
The success of the Premier League has come at the cost of our national team and manager development, thus making it right to criticise a system that struggles to produce a viable English manager. It's the price of having the best league in the world – like it or not. Culturally, football has moved beyond our traditional values, adopting and adapting philosophies from the continent. We still have resistance to that- like how Rosenior was viewed last season – the cultural roots of our game still live on in many (if in doubt – kick it out etc.). We're also inherently partisan and judgmental, and personally I make no apologies for disliking types like Lampard, Terry, and Ferdinand for example; the former has done poorly pretty much everywhere he has been anyway. Why, would top clubs keep on employing him to benefit the national team? Addressing what you're suggesting (which on the face of it, is reasonable enough) would require significant structural and systemic changes to accommodate more managers – to the extent I can’t see it happening at all. Perhaps, if there’s no relegation – then maybe more would get that leeway but other than that, it’s too cut throat and there’ simply too much money and prestige at stake. Maybe, without being too restrictive, there could be incentive for PL clubs to employ Englishman. But again, what could compare to an incentive of being successful in the PL?
In the history of the World Cup no country has won it with a foreign coach. I don’t see us being the first, unfortunately.

I was initially concerned about Tuchel, as his managerial career reads like someone who goes in and does well but then it explodes and he moves on. I think the international game is now more about projects and seeing what you’ve got through. But actually, the first part of that project is done. We now need to see the pay off. The World Cup and a home Euros are our best chance of winning a tournament for years - considering the talent we have. Now we’ve also got a manager who can get teams over the line and win the trophy. I’m actually quite encouraged. This could all go to pot but it could be the spark needed. It’s Coming Home.

Winning the women’s Euros when we have more clubs and players taking it seriously than most other countries is less of a challenge than winning the men’s competitions. No country has won the men’s World Cup with a foreign coach. And won’t at the next one, unfortunately.
I agree we won't win the next one . We constantly get told about our world class players but how many really are ? Compare us with Spain . Is our Goalkeeper as good as theirs ? Do we have a better defense ? Are our wide players as good as Nici Williams and Yamal Lavine ? Then there's Rhodri
Well, we didn’t in 1974 and 1978. Or the Euros in 1972 and 1976. And we didn’t have all those pesky foreigners dominating the top flight to blame. Though all the top teams had Scots, along with various Northern Ireland , Ireland and Wales players in their sides. Same in later years when we excelled in European club competitions and it gave us a false impression of what England should have been capable of. Now, if we could have had UK team…
