I think he'd be an excellent choice, very pragmatic, tactically proficient and adaptable which, for me, lends itself to international and particularly tournament football. Plus most of his preferred attacking play uses two tens meaning we may finally find a way to get both Foden and Bellingham in the starting line up (as people have been crying out for) in an effective way.
From a coaching point of view, this would be something of a coup. But, bring on the accusations of xenophobia if you like, I think that the position of national team manager should be reserved for coaches of the relevant nationality. Of course, if Tuchel can conjure up a great grandmother who was a professional maypole dancer in Tunbridge Wells, or even a distant uncle who bred Yorkshire Puddings, my objections might abate somewhat.
It's mostly the prickly personality thing that worries me. Did he use a back three or a back four when at Bayern? Might be about to see the return of Saka at LWB. Anything's better than Gordon, though!
I read something along the lines of a lot of his issues at Bayern were born out of a club insistence that they be wedded to their preferred 4-2-3-1 meaning that he did not have the tactical flexibility that he'd enjoyed elsewhere and that had been a big part of his success. Don't know how much there is in that or how much it was him getting his excuses out. If I'm being honest I've not followed much of the off the field stuff so I don't know a lot about his personality or prickliness.
I agree that the same restrictions that apply to player eligibility should be extended to the head coach position. Whilst they don't though and until they do I've no issue with England just going for the best person for the job.
Pep would have been my first choice. Then Howe, just to distabalise them lot up the road. Apart from that I haven't gave it a thought.
I'm of the belief that it should be a FIFA rule that everyone involved with a national side should have to qualify in the same way as the players. That would put more pressure on FA's to develop coaches, analysts, medical staff and others which in my opinion would lead to a higher standard of international football. However, as long as that is not a rule I do not care about the nationality of who we appoint. Tuchel, on paper, would be a great appointment. He'd probably be the best coach in international football immediately (I like Nagelsmann but Tuchel is of the same level if not above). Would be interesting to see what kind of shape he'd implement considering you don't get much time on the training pitch at international level. I say that because he favours a back 3 however I'm not sure how many members of our squad play that way. We probably produced our best football under Southgate with the 3 at the back system.
Its interesting to note that no manager of a different nationality to that of his team has ever won the World Cup. And only once has it happened in the European Championship (the German Otto Rehhagel in 2004 as manager of Greece). Now, this is no reason not to appoint Tuchel but it does suggest that national teams that do well are usually ones from countries whose Football Associations put faith in both their own players and their own coaches.

My opinion will never change on this an English coach should always manage the national side it is as simple as that.
