True . Germans actually like us it is nonsense . I've been to a few German cities and always found them very friendly
At the moment I am staying with my German friends of over 40 years, I have mostly found German People to be friendly to the English and very generous. Also they do have a sense of humour.
I think people are confusing German, Scottish, French etc people in general that they’ve met or seen on TV & are nice & sociable, & people from those countries who would be managing England in an important game against their own nation. Whilst they would be saying all the right things, if they lost the game, no one would trust them, no matter what, yet if they win, would they themselves be happy being accused of being a traitor. Club football & International Football are 2 completely different things!
It's just a job isn't it surely. Like managing against a former club you did well at or even support. I'm firmly club over country mind you so my perspective may be skewed
From memory,Alex Ferguson was offered the job twice and turned it down on both occasions... He wouldn't and couldn't do it because he was a Scotsman. He likened the job to a bed of nails that he didn't fancy lying on...I can't say I disagreed with his sentiment. It's a massive job that carries massive expectation and a huge amount of flak goes hand in hand with it!
I don’t think it was due to him being Scottish, he just had no interest in being an international manager, he wasn’t interested in the Scotland job either.
I seem to recall him saying something along these lines (but can't remember his wording)and the fact that it wouldn't sit well when he came back up the Road to Scotland. You're probably not far wrong that he had little interest in managing at International level though, because I would imagine they would've offered him decent money.
