Quite strange what's happened with him. He was one of our best attacking players for a period. Obviously he was and still is very young, but it's strange for him to look so good in the first team and then end up so out of favour.
I thought that was quite encouraging. Yes, it's a friendly and we don't know a lot about the standard so caveats apply, but we've looked terrible in these sorts of games over recent years so it was nice to see us look so obviously dominant over a Super Lig side, playing most of the game in their half and creating loads of chances.
I hope we go for a similar standard next summer over there (assuming Acun is still here and we go). We learn nothing from getting played off the park by one of their regular European qualifiers.
He broke through in a period where the pressure was off, our season was over much like many teams we played against. Whenever he’s played against full throttle opposition he’s looked completely out his depth physically. Jarvis was absolutely crap today but you can see why he’s above him, he can glide past people and uses his body to win fouls etc
No, he really wasn’t. He had a neat touch and that was it. He offered the square root of **** all every time he played for City. He couldn’t cut it in League One.
Rosenior handed out long-term contracts to players who were never good enough. Vaughan is one of them.
He looked a very promising young talent. Bit like a young klp. Pushed into the spotlight too soon and too much at the time. Has his development stalled or even gone backwards that much, or is it that we now have such better players in the squad than when he was featuring? Thinking it's the latter. Still only 20 so time on his side. ?
I know he's been deeply unpopular with some on here including you for a while but I never understood it. Those final weeks of 22/23 he really stood out, and I suspect if you looked back at some of the match/MOTM threads you'd find wide agreement of this from that time. He's far from the first to break through initially and then drop off and there could be any number of reasons so maybe it's not actually that unusual. But something about how Rosenior was initially so impressed by his attitude, application and tactical awareness in addition to his obviously good touch, compared to how he seems to be viewed now seems strange to me. Ultimately though he's another like Jarvis who should really be out on loan and is unfortunately a victim of our business being done at the deadline meaning that we didn't have time to loan out players who we didn't need at the end.
I thought he was more remeniscent of Bowen with his low centre of gravity helping him turn players, but just didn't go on with it.
Not at all bad yesterday, with the major caveat that it was only a friendly, we don't know how much that was their first team, and they really didn't bother with much pressing allowing us time and space to build from the back. Rushworth impressed me with the ball (don't think he had a save to make) as he was always aware of what was on and consequently moved the ball much quicker in contrast to Pandur. Hughes was the same, and it was noticeable how it was much slower in the second half. Both Pandur (who didn't play yesterday) and Macca need to get the ball, look up, have a think, then pass and that's a big contributing factor to how pedestrian we are in building from the back. Puerta was excellent, hard to understand Walter's pre-match interview about how he wasn't fit enough and needed to wait for his chance, then he produces an energetic performance playing most of the game and being MOTM. He has the same (South American?) ability as Zambrano to take the ball in heavy traffic and not look like losing it. Hard to knock off the ball and willing to batter the opposition at any opportunity. All of this subject to the above caveat but certainly very promising perfomance. Alzate and Kamara carried on from their good cameos against Norwich, Kamara looks a better crosser of the ball than Millar, could be a good contest between them for that position. Pedro missed some good chances, looked rusty, but I was encouraged by the fact that he was in the right place at the right time, much more than Bedia has showed so far. Only disappointment yesterday was Jarvis who was sloppy and looked a couple of levels below his teammates. Maybe Ireland might be his level.
I suspect Jarvis will go the way of Vaughan, plenty of technical ability, but far too easily knocked off the ball.
Thought Dremeh looked better at right back but theres no way he's dislodging Coyle from that position any time soon.time
