You do know that FaceBook isn't 'media'. Or that anything on there isn't verified and is probably bullshit. I would trust this forum more than a facebook post and this forum can be really full of it sometimes
My late brother used to know someone who was working on the training ground when it was being built, but as that is finished and my brother is dead it sort of doesn't work anymore....
Rafa Benitez would be my choice, was last at Celta Vigo a club of a similar size. Loads of Premier league experience, plays a more pragmatic style but not so much that the clubs philosophy needs ripping up. Let him settle the ship this season and then move him up to replace Jason Wilcox. We need experienced footballing leadership at the moment IMO.
I think we need someone with s similar, but less severe, system to Martin. Going from Hasenhuttl's extreme pressing, to Martin's extreme possession, then to something else would be asking a lot.
Only Kyle Walker-Peters would be confused, hardly anyone left who played for Hassenhuttl consistently.
The club as a whole, the coaches throughout every layer of the academy, our scouting system that will have been identifying players to suit Ralph, then Martin and now someone new. Yes, players can adapt, but we signed these players to play possession football. Completely changing your clubs playing style and philosophy every time you change manager isn't sustainable, certainly not in this day and age when managers tend to be replaced every couple of years.
And this is exactly why I don't understand the 'Martin Out' clamour. Well, I do, but it's pointless even entertaining the idea because SR clearly want to play this way, so they will still appoint a manager to play that possession-based crap, so nothing will really change.
Possession football doesn't have to be this particular brand of it which is possession football on crystal meth. The best managers mix it up anyway imo.
Yeah this is an extreme version, something I’m sure none of the players will have played until playing for Martin. Pretty sure they could adapt to something less mental if a new manager was to come in, it’s not like they will have only played one way of football their entire lives
Also because of the size of our squad there probably are different combos that suit different styles. A new manager comes in and we might never see, say Archer, because we get a long ball guy who prefers Onuachu. I dont think SR are hamstrung by the squad when it comes to picking a new guy, they may want to play super possession based football and that guides their hand on who comes in if Martin goes, but it won’t be anything to do with the playing squad
I was under the belief that they decided possession football was the best approach for the championship due to the amount of games. Playing high pressing football over a 46 game season was not seen as sustainable or the sensible thing to do. As mentioned by Saintmagic, what we are playing at the moment is a very extreme version of possession football. I don't see that a change to something that is not suicidal crab football would be difficult for the players to do at all. I just hope Sports Republic play it safe and get an experience manager and not try to be clever again. We've got from a manger who's tactics was for Lyanco to launch heat seeking missiles 10 yards above Che Adams head 80 times a game. To a manger who likes his centre backs and goalkeeper to pass in amongst themselves 80 times before giving it to the opposing attacker to score. Can we not just get someone who does something in between the two?
Although professional footballers and athletes, coaches etc probably aren’t the brightest members of society, I think we’re doing them a disservice to suggest they would find it so hard to learn a new system. Different players might have attributes suited more to one style, but if you’re good at kicking a ball and running around then you should be able to change style of play. KWP is our best player and he has been able to play in a variety of different systems. If the players are good enough they shouldn’t find it that hard.
I see Jason Dodd is now saying RM doesn’t know his best 11. Been saying same & im no one but when iconic past players join the fray …. Needs to nail it next game or he’s a goner imo.
