Wow, almost 400 runs in the day, Root bats all day..... he must be absolutely knackered..... England in a good position, 64 runs behind and 7 wickets in hand.... can force a decent lead by mid afternoon and apply pressure to Pakistan in their 2nd innings...... A word also to Harry Brook, well played young man.... also Crawley and Duckett for scoring quickly at almost 5 an over England have gained time to bowl and try to force a result....
****ing hell Root and Brook still scoring at 5 an over after 130 overs! Could be 300 ahead by tea and then have a bowl at them.
162/0 runs in the session..... white ball cricket with a red ball..... Great quip yesterday on beeb text...... England Highways Department should contact this groundsman asking him for tips on how to construct a road.......
Great stuff from Root And Brook, not least in terms of fitness, with a lot of these runs coming in twos and threes. Not entirely sad to see Root go because I backed Brook for top run scorer!.
The 454-run stand between Root and Brook was England's highest ever Test partnership (and fourth highest in Test history), beating the 411 set by Peter May and Colin Cowdrey in 1957. The May/Cowdrey stand took 1,140 balls, whilst Root and Brook took just 522 balls. It's a different game these days, thankfully.
Unreal that England scored 267 runs more than Pakistan in only 1 more over than it took Pakistan to score their's..... shows the benefit of scoring at 5 an over compared to the more modest 3.5 .... England brought themselves a lot of time and have used it brilliantly...
