The appointment sounds good to me. Worked at some top clubs as an assistant and has an interesting background in scouting and analysis. His career as a manager hasn't went too well but that's irrelevant to the role he will have here. Looking forward to seeing how his addition impacts the team. Welcome Pedro.

"Sunderland appointed Portuguese coach Pedro Ribeiro to the position of Assistant Head Coach today. Ribeiro will work with Mike Dodds, Michael Proctor and Alessandro Barcherini as support for Head Coach Regis Le Bris.

The 38-year-old had been lined up to take the position of manager at Liga 3 club Academica, according to Record, and was even in attendance at the team’s recent Portuguese Cup game against Torreense ahead of a potential appointment. However, the move failed at the last hurdle, with Riberio rejecting the club’s advances due to ‘other proposals’ which has transpired to be a move to the Stadium of Light."

So is Speakman still holding everything back and the root of all evil or has something changed?

It's difficult to keep up <confused>

Alan Browne praise for Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris

SUNDERLAND midfielder Alan Browne has been blown away by head coach Regis Le Bris. And he insists he's not just saying that because the Black Cats are top of the Championship....

“I think he’s absolutely brilliant, and that’s not just because we’re winning," said Browne, who came off the bench to rescue a point for Sunderland in the most unlikely of circumstances against Leeds last Friday night.

"Even when we are winning, he’s looking at what we can improve on. He’s not getting up our highlights and saying, ‘Well done everyone, that’s it for the week’, he looks at what we’ve done wrong and how we can fix it, and each game is different.

“We approach each game differently because not every team is the same and there’s different ways to beat teams. I think he’s really good at figuring that out, from what we’ve seen so far.

“Long may that continue. He’s a real, calm presence, he doesn’t get carried away or anything. Whether we’re winning or losing, he’s very intelligent and I think he’s a great asset for the club. He’s brilliant, not just for the younger boys, but also for myself to learn from.”

Browne is spending the international break on Wearside after being left out of Heimir Hallgrímsson’s Republic of Ireland squad for their games against Finland tonight and Greece on Sunday. Sunderland return to action a week on Sunday away at Hull City.

Looking at the Ligue 1 table I'm very pleased we didn't appoint Will Still.

They are doing remarkably well with 11 points from 7 games and they are unbeaten but it looks like they are boring their opponents to death. Averaging one goal a game and have drawn five of their matches.

    Not for me.

As a side note, perhaps his knowledge of the Portuguese leagues can be utilised in recruitment or at least in directing a bit of scouting towards certain players/clubs.

I was thinking more like some 19 year old talent who slipped through the Benfica net and ended up at Martimo or Farense.

Wonder how Hemir is doing at Juve. A Portuguese coach might work wonders with him. There's clearly something there.
