I'm not sure if the words you use actually bamboozle yourself, they certainly don't work with me tbh. Perhaps you believe they'll help you to 'prove your point', I've absolutely no idea.

Saying Saudi Arabia 'doesn't support' LGBT is like saying Hitler didn't support Judaism ...

... they actually murder people who they don't support, it's enshrined in their laws, and Henderson knew that before he put his principles aside while he took their money.

'Doesn't support that', ha'way man, get a grip.

I respect all of your reasons guys.

I think it's possible he comes back in January, by the sound of things.

He loves his Club. Despite my feelings against what he choseto do, I forgive him.

    Onwards and upwards chaps.

    Ha'way me bonny lads...

Interesting read. I tend to agree that he was on a pedastal with his support of certain marginalised groups. He supported many other causes. The weight of England and Liverpool captaincy can lead you into certain things. Same with any captaincy to be honest. I think he had to take a stance ahead of the Qatar world cup for example, not to would have seen him castigated. Not saying he did it because he was captain, but it shone a brighter light on his stance.

I have often wondered about how the move to Saudi came about. Henderson seems to me the opposite of so many money grabbing footballers. He decided to leave Liverpool because he wanted to play, that was the start of it according to Klopp. I would want to play too. He is then at the behest of clubs who could buy him. Liverpool would not sell to a rival. I dont know what options he had, or what influence his agent had. Then of course the chance to play for Gerrard, one of his heroes, must have weighed heavy. None of these are excuses, but for me go some way to understanding why he may have made a mistake. He himself has said it was a mistake now. How long is his penance?

I remember on this board, in the build up to the world cup in Qatar, many saying they wouldnt watch on moral grounds. Not everyone maintained that stance when it came to it. I always said I would watch, and watch I did. Enjoyed it too, it was fantastic. I wont judge others morals to be honest it is something for them. Mine are mine. I dont know what, if anything, Henderson did in his short spell in Saudi to try to change anything. I am not even sure if he took the salary in the end. Again, not excuses for his decision, he has to live with it.

Wasnt so long ago we played a friendly against a side from Saudi. We now have a coach who has previously worked for a Saudi club. Hendersons indescretions may be greater due to his hypocrisy. Maybe we cant avoid some of the things that we feel are disappointing and distasteful. The world seems to be getting closer and closer around us.

I am over Henderson decision here. He went, he saw, he came back. Purely on football terms I wouldnt have him back. He has no coaching credentials that appeal either. But I wouldnt make a decision solely on the basis in the past he made a decision I dont agree with.

Just my two penneth on what I have found an intersting read. Thanks to all who have contributed.

A Sunderland lad who has lifted the European Cup / Champions League- there’s not many of them knocking about.

I think he could be an asset to the Club - even though I don’t agree with his decisions over the last couple of years

He went there and didn’t break any laws in doing so. He regretted it and got out. He made a mistake, one which was very public, Do we need to get the pitchforks out every time his name is mentioned? Still surprised at the strength of feeling against him.

To be fair, no one wants him pilloried. As far as I can see they're just saying they lost a bit of respect and found his words and actions hypocritical, which they clearly were. Personally I'd have understood it more if he'd said he was going there for the money, saying it definitely wasn't for the money was a bit cheap and obviously a lie.

No big deal, I just don't think greedy two faced people are what we need at the club right now.

    City Players
    Mags
    Utd players (Radcliffe)
Arguably ours (Short, Juan ( no idea if true btw))
Anyone playing under FIFA, Allardyce, Redknapp, Gambling sponsorship, oil money
I’m sure the list can go on and on (I just cba) take murky money. Football stinks. You don’t have to play in Saudi to be tarnished by filthy money or money gained in unethical ways.

Heard plenty talk about Henderson this week. I really hope we aren’t in for him.

I hope the club are aware there's an issue about it, apart from if you rate him or not. That friendly against a Saudi team was tone deaf and should never have happened.

“Doesn’t support that”? You get put away, or worse, for a basic human right, and something a lot have no control over. Being gay is not a “choice”

I don’t want him here. He had zero reasons to go to Saudi. You use money, for a guy who already has more than he can spend and his kids can spend. No thanks. Also have we any idea if he as good as he used to be? As none of us have seen him play for over a year?

Listened to the Speakman interview and after the debacle with Beale they threw away the criteria and started again, fan sentiment being one of the new elements. On that basis alone I’d say Henderson is unlikely to happen. Don’t want to announce one of your own coming home then have them walk out on pitch for first time to boos and abuse.

As things stand we're very much a team and, particularly since Clarke left, no single player is more important than the next. If Henderson came back all the focus would be on him and the players who've taken us to the top would feel a little pushed out imo.

He'd also become the centre of attention for chants from the opposition ...

... at the moment they have nothing on us, we're impeccable <laugh>

What are you on about?? Are you homophobic? As you are certainly coming across as that here. You are all but backing a regime which executes people for something they have no choice about. Unless you are one of those who think they choose to be attracted to the same sex!
