Yeah indeed. Something to bear in mind for sure. It'll rely on prioritising the recruitment of intelligent footballers as well as making sure that we always have that solid base to return to if things get confused. Also I'd imagine increasing the range of support roles available will be key too.

We'll have our part to play in it too. Virtually all fan-coach-club relationships end in tears eventually. It's a fair bet that the qualities that we love in RLB end up being the same ones he's pilloried for in time. A degree of calmness and understanding from the fans will help to extend the honeymoon. Hopefully he either continues to win every game we play - or at least we're established in a higher league by the time the split happens:emoticon-0102-bigsm

I'll admit, I got a pang of nerves hearing RLB talking about introducing more complex methodology and tactics now that they are close to having mastered the basics of his gameplan and way of playing.

That's just my mentality though, 'it's working so why muddle with it and complicate things', I then worry that's when things started to go awry for him at Lorient....I know really though that you have to keep moving, developing and striving for improvement so it's absolutely right what he's saying and planning on introducing.

Yeah indeed. The big effect that RLB can have is knowing when to push the players to expand their view, and when we need to rein it in. Hopefully the club is able to provide him with a squad of greater intelligence as well as a support staff of greater and more varied skill. That's gonna be the challenge for Speakman over this season. Personally I hope that some of the Clarke money goes towards expanding our support capabilities. Might not be as sexy as blowing it all on a 'proven' striker but I bet it'll make us a better club in the long run

That's what I seriously like about him. It's not that he's coaching the team to play a certain way, he's coaching them to think about it themselves. A coach can only do so much once they've crossed that white line. That fact that they're discussing it in such detail at half time speaks volumes for his coaching imo

There are changes afoot behind the scenes also. It's my understanding that, after months of deliberating, the club are going to finally appoint a new assistant manager during the international break after a period of reflection, and then an interview process which was taken to find the ideal candidate. From the continent, the new member of staff has previously been an assistant manager before briefly stepping into senior management, so arrives with a wealth of coaching experience, albeit outside of English football.

Excited by this. Good time to bring in a new voice. He will have time to assess and find his place.

Why do we need to keep looking back tho? The team are playing well n hes apart of a coaching staff that's doing really well

He's not a manager at all n he was shocking as manager but he's not the manager anymore

It's a lot easier when we are top of the league and unbeaten at home.

He's clearly a good coach and well thought of. Maybe not for the main man job but he obviously has an important place in the coaching team

Ribeiro, 38, arrives at the Academy of Light with 19 years of coaching experience under his belt and after holding similar roles at FC Porto, Al-Ahli, Olympiacos, Fenerbahçe, and TSV 1860 Munich.

He also has managerial experience in his homeland, having led Belenenses SAD, FC Penafiel, Académico Viseu, and Leixões as Head Coach.

Interesting side point that Mike Dodds is also remaining as Assistant. So we have two assistant managers (something which seems more and more popular nowadays).

I have no problem with this. in fact I'm pleased. He's clearly doing a good job as an Assistant
