2:07 is interesting for the breeding buffs. Skelton brings out a son of Dink out of Manly Dream, making him a full brother to not only Noche Negra but also Nube Negra. Dink is an interesting sire, and one that the Skelton's have put a lot of hope into, standing him at their stud Alne Park. The horse is Denzil. I am surprised to see it odds on, even in a small field. These junior races are not very well populated and it could be a very weak race. You wouldn't be seeing me back at odds on in one of these!!
It didn't settle particularly well, but he knew his job and his jumping was good. The only challenger had a bad fall at the last, but its the second year in the row that Skelton has won that race. It'll be interesting to see if the horse goes on from that, and what its ability level is like.
I do like these early season juvenile races as there really could be anything winning them. Some ropey jumping too
It is interesting the difference between the junior hurdles and the juvenile hurdles, and the sort of horses they are bringing to the track.
I also love these races. Bit disappointing though that Chepstow's 3YO Hurdle, on Saturday, has attracted just 7 runners at the initial declaration stage. Although with 1st prizemoney of less than £5k is it that surprising?!? That really is very, very low money. Being a bit more positive some of the 7 look potentially 'arf decent - Kerry Lee has an unraced half-brother to Nemean Lion, My Noble Lord won his last 3 runs on the level, Alan King's entrant is a half-brother to a St Leger winner and Usuario Amigo won last time out, on the Flat, and is a half-brother to a Group 1 winner in that discipline. No idea, though, if they will all stand their ground though and line up at Chepstow.
