Hughes is young but a potential James Chesteresque level CB, who do we have to coach him? Only Dawson, a spell with the England U21's would help.
Good shout but I believe it’s a combination of both. We definitely miss Greaves at the back alright but we arguably haven’t really replaced those who left properly either . Saying that we don’t seem capable of playing Walter’s system without allowing the opposition numerous chances to score. Our game plan is built on the press and dominate sides high up the pitch but we’re leaving ourselves wide open to the counterattack as our midfield goes missing and/or our wingback are caught out of position Said as much after Sheffield U game and the better sides have already cottoned on to how to beat us and have the players to do it.
We've just brought in 17 players, ripped the squad to pieces and started again but we need 2-3/3-4 new players in January? If anything we could do with a proven Championship 15-20 goal a season striker,we never got one and it's doubtful we will in the January window.Wishful thinking to actually think we're going on a hard recruitment drive in January? Don't you trust the squad we've assembled?
At some point we just have to trust what we've got with one or two savvy additions. And I think that is what will happen in January
“We need new players” “Friendlies don’t count for anything but fitness” “He has new players” “New players aren’t fit” “It’s only 5 games, friendlies & cup games don’t count” “It’ll be fine after the International break” “We’ve won told you, told you, told, you” “The players need time to gel” “It’ll be fine after the International break” “We need more players” The circle of ****e.
We don't need new players (we've got too many strikers now to even think about a new one) we need a system that's not completely kamikaze. Even the games we've won Pandur is up there as man is the match which tells you all you need to know.
Gimme twenty grand a week and you can call me whatever the **** you like I’ll laugh like **** and wave a wad at you Wtf does it have to do with mental health getting some abuse when you’re warming up?
Baz is making himself look like an even bigger twat than usual on Twitter. Booing and jeering an ex-player who handed in a transfer request is unacceptable ‘abuse’ in football now? **** me, what a soft ****.
Thought there was a lot less fannying about at the back yesterday, but when we did it went horribly wrong
It was a bit OTT for someone who played five games for them before being shipped off to league 1 on loan tbf
He handed in a transfer request. Pretty normal and expected for him to get stick. All this ****e on Twitter by Baz is just copium and generating outrage by a third-rate journalist against a club that comfortably beat us.
Each to their own but I really wouldn't be that arsed if someone who clearly wasn't in the club's plans saw his future elsewhere
Me neither. I wouldn’t be arsed if Jarvis handed in a transfer request. That being said, booing and jeering him wouldn’t be ‘abuse’ and it’s something pro footballers need to be able to handle. It’s not even Kamara himself crying about it. It’s ****ing Baz Cooper white-knighting to create outrage and get traffic to his employer’s dogshit website.
We’ve replaced most of the squad over the summer but the majority of that has centred on the midfield and forwards. Yes, we have brought in Giles (permanently), Drameh and Hughes but they haven’t featured regularly yet. Coyle is Coyle and has adapted well, but whilst McLoughlin and Jones were competent defenders in a more conventional defence, they don’t seem to have the ability to get to grips with what Tim is trying to get them to do. Whether that’s down to them or the system is open to debate and I guess we’ll see soon if Hughes is any better (not including yesterday, as he was thrown in at the deep end). Of course the kamikaze stuff at the back is mostly down to Tim wanting us to play in this unconventional style and hopefully at some point he will accept that he is going to have to be a bit more pragmatic in at least those games against better opposition, at least until we have two centre halves who are comfortable playing the system. One option might be to play two more defensive minded midfielders and only one attacking. Possibly Zambrano and Alzate, where only one at a time commits to pushing forward. Although we still haven’t seen Puerta yet. We look like we’ve brought in some very good players but whether Tim can make it work with one or two of the previous squad in crucial roles, is a definite concern.
If you don't have a squad above league level, which is impossible due to parachute teams FFP, I believe only way to get out of this league is finding a striker who can score 20+ easily.
