‘It’s really unjust’ - Liam Manning responds to Bristol City boos after Sheffield Wednesday draw There were boos from some sections of fans from Ashton Gate after Bristol City’s 0-0 draw against Sheffield Wednesday Liam Manning has hit back after boos from some Bristol City fans rang around Ashton Gate at full-time. And the Robins boss believes the criticism was "unjust" with City unlucky not to come away with all three points against Sheffield Wednesday. There were murmurings and boos which met referee Anthony Backhouse’s full-time whistle as the Robins couldn’t knock down the resilient Owls defence, with the contest finishing 0-0 under the lights at BS3. The point leaves the Robins 13th in the Championship standings having picked up 10 points from their opening eight games of the season. Despite controlling proceedings against Wednesday for large parts of the evening, City were unable to find a winner with goalkeeper James Beadle coming to the rescue on a number of occasions to keep the scores level.. And Manning has responded to the boos which met his side at the end of the game and was adamant they weren't deserved. He said, “It’s disappointing, you don’t want it and I think the lads didn’t deserve it. I think it sums the world up a little bit. “I was the first to put my hands up after Blackburn when we lost, people not competing, not running, not bringing enough energy but tonight it wasn’t that. The lads gave everything, they asked questions and I can’t control the booing - I think it’s really unjust for the lads to be far. It’s unfortunate. It’s where the world is at, it’s easier and quicker to do it. “Rather than at 0-0 and go and make some noise and get behind them. Everything in the world right now is so short term. We want the fans with us and it’s the first time we haven’t scored this season. We’ve got a really disappointed and frustrated changing room because we want to win games but we’ve got another 38 to go. “It doesn’t help but I want to talk about the lads rather than the booing. It’s disappointing and you don’t want to hear it but I’ll concentrate on the players ultimately and when you see it the lads gave everything.” Despite the boos, Manning believed his side did enough to pick up all three points against Sheffield Wednesday and was pleased with the performance he saw. He added, “You’re never going to please everybody. Especially with the extra day recovery they (Sheffield Wednesday) had over us.I thought it was a really physical game at Swansea, they’ve got the extra day from Saturday and naturally it caught up with us a tiny bit in the second half. “At the same, defensively we’ve been guilty of being a little bit too open and giving up a few changes which we’ve not been happy about conceding the volume of goals we have but first half I though we were outstanding with the ball as well. “We got in some terrific areas, pinned them back and had really good control. It’s difficult to dominate a game for 90 minutes at this level and naturally in the second half they had a little bit and we had a little bit. We got in some semi areas Syksey and Yu a couple of times but we just didn’t convert first half ultimately. “That’s the bit for me, it’s about improving. I think seven out the eight games so far we’ve created 15 plus chances and that’s incredible. You look at tonight, the lads put in such a shift. It wasn’t through a lack of will or trying, they gave everything tonight.” ‘It’s really unjust’ - Liam Manning responds to Bristol City boos after Sheffield Wednesday draw - Bristol Live (bristolpost.co.uk)
It's a bad sign when LM says he is disappointed when his own fans express their frustrations with boos and murmurings, we must be approaching that 10 game total and he is not being very successful.
There’s only so much patience paying fans will have. That’s fans who pay Mannings and the players wages We are under performing (or he’s bought the wrong players) and patience will run out if we can’t get more points on the board and quickly It’s also been noted that Cardiff finally won a game on Tuesday
It’s nonsense, the fans were behind the team the whole game, we always are, it’s the players fault when we lose, now it’s the fans for booing the boring one dimensional predictable style of play we have under this coach. They are booing LM not the players.
Is anyone on here 'pleased' with last night ? And all we had to show was a header from Mehmeti. I'll bet Cardiff are quaking in their boots.
there was a lot of good movement [ both sides at times ......... but seriously lacked the last 20m and in the box... YU up until 60 mins seemed to be the best chance, [ with Twine ] then the subbing started ...... and we sort of stalemated with their more aggressive attacking .........
I am feeling unjust. I spent time unjustly watching that. Justice would be giving me back the ninety minutes wasted watching it.
Last night wasn’t great but it’s not desperately **** either. We just need to grow some teeth up front. Mid-table - no change since LJ was sacked so you’d think we’d be used to it by now
Liam Manning hits out at Bristol City boo boys after Sheffield Wednesday draw https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/l...istol-city-boo-boys-sheffield-wednesday-draw/ I like LM he is not gobby or a lover of gizmos, neither is he arrogant or have bullyish tendencies but the sort of publcity he is generating will not help his cause, you can't deny fans from expressing their opinions, it's part of our culture.
I’m not calling for him to go but results and performances really do need to start improving and quickly A decent result against Cardiff would steady the ship and get some confidence back in the squad And the fans won’t boo either !
I think the booing wasn’t a reflection on the effort of the team, but more the fact that his style of play is boring. Thats not the players fault, it’s Mannings. They weren’t boing the players, they were booing Manning. If he doesn’t realise that then maybe someone needs to tell him. We aren’t used to and don’t like possession based football, just for its sake. We like attacking front foot football, sort it out Manning.
Manning ****ed it. Lost control of the mid and subbed forwards. In E34 fans were booing the bloke who ****ed it.
The song and the words remain the same all these years after we were told by Lansdown that we were going for the top 6 each and every new campaign. The phrases such as "we did enough" and "we deserved better" are old hat and starting to sound like "deja vu" all over again. I almost get the impression that we will continue to be a team that really knows what is wrong but refuses to do anything about it and if that is truly the case then we need a new owner who is up for the fight. How many supporters would refuse season ticket renewals if Lansdown came out and admitted that he has absolutely no intention of funding a trip to the Premiership? Supporting a team that has lacked ambition and the balls to build a squad capable of at least showing interest in achieving something worthwhile is like banging your head against a brick wall until you realize that it hurts so badly. Whatever we write or feel about Bristol City are wasted emotions hoping to get the message across to those who frankly don't care and that in itself is our commitment to the team we love. Is there anybody out there listening???
