That's the problem with tit-for-tat. I'm naively hoping, seeing as they shot down the vast majority of missiles from this attack that at worst they do something similar to what you just mentioned.
Meanwhile in the Tory leadership contest Badenoch has had a go at maternity pay being too much and is also slating the minimum wage as preventing small businesses from starting up. Jenrick (or BobbyJ as he is trying to market himself) has received a £75000 donation from a company that has no employees, has never returned a profit, is carrying £300000 of debt and is registered in the BVI, and when he was asked who owned the company he didn’t know. Back to Kemi and we have this, in which I think the last sentence carries all the weight and why I don’t agree with donations. She has basically confirmed that she, like every other MP who accepts donations, is open to a bribe, even if the act of declaring the gifts negates any wrongdoing. Asked about the tickets, she confirmed she’d had meetings during events she took tickets for – which included a rugby game, Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball and the Sheeran gig. She said: “If someone says, ‘Well, you can do some work and we can have a chat and you get time to spend with your family’, [and] it’s something that they probably wouldn’t be able to do normally, you say yes to it.” Asked why she didn’t pay for the tickets herself, she said: “Well, then why would I have that meeting [with those organisations]?”
Politicians are all corrupt beyond repair. Country is ****ed. Prepare for the UK to gradually descend more & more into a 3rd world country, with failing public services etc. This isn’t hyperbole it’s the sad truth. None of our political parties have any inclination (or the ability) to arrest the slide. They aren’t even asking the right questions, let alone providing answers. Save as much money as you can people. You’ll need it to pay for medical care when the NHS finally gives up the pretence of being functional.
Apparently the company that donated £75k to “BobbyJ” isn’t registered in the BVI but borrowed £300k from a company that is registered in the BVI. Jenrick now says that he knows who the company owner is and that the company is a “start up” creating a new sports app, that presumably thinks that gifting an MP £75k will benefit his business more than using the money to further develop his app. And a heartwarming story about Jonathan Gullis applying for teachers jobs and not yet having been given an interview. He thinks it might have something to do with him having been a Tory MP and (in his opinion) most teachers being centre left politically. He thinks his political views might be stopping him from getting interviews and, in order to ensure that this continues, he whinged about the education system being woke. Bless.
I agree with some of the other issues Badenoch has taken on in the past and quite like her openness but I'm not sure that will help her if she were leader. Her comments about maternity pay weren't exactly clear though and afterwards she said; Following the interview, Badenoch posted on X, external: "Contrary to what some have said, I clearly said the burden of regulation on businesses had gone too far… of course I believe in maternity pay!" She later followed this up with a second social media post, external, where she said: "Of course maternity pay isn’t excessive…no mother of 3 kids thinks that." Of course, she may also have made the later comments because she realised they were a mistake and was trying to save face. The other point about freebies is sadly a reflection of politicians attitude in that paying for tickets etc doesn't even seem to cross their mind. I agree with all that you've posted recently on the subject. Their first thought should be "no, I can't take this" but it's been going on so long it's seen as a perk of the job.
Who has Ian Hislop been upsetting recently. Allegations of shots being fired at a taxi he was in. https://youtube.com/shorts/809X7oz8KaU?si=tCsV-0G8Ndl8yJpV
I wonder how many other jobs he got turned away for before going back to applying for teaching ones? Because don’t ex-MPs usually expect to move on to non exec directorships and more lucrative things than teaching?
Starmer's hopes for closer ties with the EU, repairing some of the damage done by the disastrous oven ready deal, is hampered by the government's apparent refusal to discuss a youth mobility scheme an arrangement where young people from the bloc can live and work in the UK for a fixed period of time and vice versa. UK ministers are concerned this would be perceived as a return to freedom of movement with the EU, with Starmer telling reporters that his position hadn’t changed and that “free movement is a red line”. "Diplomats and politicians told the Guardian this week that opening discussions on a youth mobility scheme was a precondition for agreement in other areas, such as defence and security." "David McAllister, a German centre-right MEP and ally of von der Leyen’s, said he hoped Starmer would be open to an EU-UK youth mobility agreement, adding: “In the end, the UK government will also have to be judged on its willingness to compromise on this issue with regard to other areas of negotiation.” Just ****ing do it, don't let the likes of Farage and the tory right dictate policy.
I think it has been widely accepted that Brexit is costing our economy £100 billion a year and losing the government £40 billion in tax revenue. Any MP who automatically rules out considering rejoining the single market, based on knowing the financial damage it is doing to the country, should be considered unpatriotic, imo, and that should be a form of attack on the MP in question. £22 billion black hole? Recouping £40 billion in lost tax revenue covers that with change.
Couldn’t disagree more. The release from the shackles of the morons at the EU is the first step to making England a decent country again. Anyone that ignores the democratic mandate is the unpatriotic one. The £20bil black hole is essentially a Starmer lie to cover his hypocrisy
Nonsense. Anyone who ignores the democratic principle that allows the country to change it’s mind and correct previous mistakes is the unpatriotic one.
I see Kuenssberg has had to cancel an interview with Boris after she "accidentally" sent him her briefing notes. And then somebody found out about it.
She is a devoted Tory, always gave them an easy ride whenever she interviewed one…..labour however …….attack, attack.
HIGNFY "The UK and EU have been unable to agree on a proposed youth mobility scheme. Sir Keir Starmer insists that free movement is “unacceptable”, unlike free suits, which are “lovely” please log in to view this image
