It stops teams from sitting deep, if we regularly score the first goal we’ll be hitting teams for 2/3 regularly.
I'd argue our attacking exploits in the last few games, allowing us to win by 2 or 3 clear goals allow us a bit of luck at the back. Shota constantly fluked 1 goal wins.
Let's see how we go against slightly better teams before getting too excited. Norwich the perfect opponent.
Nothing, not ever, not for any of the ‘big clubs’ supporters, will ever match that feeling at Wembley the first time round when that final whistle blew that sent us to the promised land, it was honestly so emotional for me, sat there with both of my adult kids sat either side of me, thinking of those departed City fans that had gone before that would have loved to have seen that moment.
He was on that Under The Cosh podcast a year or so ago, and very much confirmed what you are saying here.
Think the recruitment of the wide men we have brought in as been brilliant and suits our style of play massively.
Late to the party, My twopenneth for what it’s worth, Tim delivered what it says on the tin, exciting footie last night, brilliant game end to end, edge of seat stuff. Yes, we rode our luck in first 10 mins, all down to the PP (Pink Pandur) played out of his skin, great response to having some competition! Thought Millar had his best game for us. I’ve seen some crap on soc media, saying not to get too excited, we’ve only beaten the bottom clubs, but we can only beat what’s in front of us, QPR were no push overs! Yes, the acid test will be on Saturday, against expected better teams. What’s not to like, 3 wins on the bounce, 10 goals in 3 games, confidence in abundance. Every man played his part, including fab away support, we heard them loud & proud. UTT.
The major difference was the goals we scored under Shota seemed to be lucky as well. We are creating good chances in this system. Once Zambrano came on yesterday we looked far more in control.
That's the key difference, along with the space we're allowing our attackers. Belloumi could have easily had us on 4 goals last night and we could have had a penalty as well.
Drameh show some real skill last night, the strike for the goal, also that great bit of skill for Bedia goal, where he gave Coyle the room to cross.
On top of that Simons headed narrowly wide and probably should have scored, and Belloumi headed one over the bar under little pressure too. Despite the scares at the back, we look like we've got bagfulls of goals in us suddenly.
As of last night we’ve got a xGa of 10.1 (roughly as some stats differ in metric). We’ve conceded 9 so in reality we are on about par for what you would typically expect for that kind of defence. For balance sake we have an xG of 11 and we’ve scored 12. So in reality sake we are where we should be based on performances so far. I’m fully expecting a game where we concede a few and lose 3 or 4-1 maybe it happens more I don’t know. However, I largely don’t buy the motion we can’t keep doing this at this level. For one I think some defensive frailties will get ironed out. I think the idea is to be better in the press and as such don’t create such huge transitions. The other aspect is. This league is by and large bobbins. Yes, QPR could’ve scored more but let’s be real how many chances outside the penalty were really dangerous? The second from the double save (which was a world class stop). This is a fair reflection I would say for 12-14 sides in this league. They don’t have the consistent fire power to punish sometimes. - Bristol City took a high quality finish to score against us off the back of an error - Plymouth was a bit of good individual play off the back of some sloppy defending - Sheff United punished mistakes. You could also argue they should’ve had more another indicator of the quality of the league - Leeds United I would say were the only team that unlocked us with their first goal. - Cardiff was a good transition and arguably offside - QPR a pen My point is that this is the system. We will attempt to score more than you. If you get one on the counter then great. We will take the ball and score 2 and so on. To say it won’t work in this league isn’t true when Ipswich conceded an average of 1.2 goals a game. Something we are currently matching. Southampton conceded more and got promoted. Both of these had the same criticisms as us at points. Great going forward but susceptible at the back.
