I heard the timeless classic, Mauled by the Tigers, being belted out a few times during the second half last night. Cringeworthy or classic it still makes me laugh especially when accompanied by the hand movements to represent the mauling.
Try sitting amongst the opposition fans when it starts Vern. Never felt so embarrassed. Got some right stick last night. What are people thinking when they do that crap?
Thats the problem, I'm not sure opposition fans see it that way. The ones I was near last night seemed to think it was a celebration
I've never understood this level of overthinking of it. To some extent it is a celebration, obviously. So what? It's also obviously very unserious and silly. Where is the problem.
If you can find me something equally 'unserious' and 'silly' fans of another club do i would be interested to see it. I can't recall ever seeing grown men pretending to be cats at a footy match. Maybe I'm just getting boring in my old age?
My son in law is an Arsenal fan and thinks “mauled” is quite funny. Until I show him the clip of City fans singing it at The Emirates in 2008 then he thinks it’s pathetic. Which sort of sums it up for me.
The safety of the barrier allows the tough guys of the world to unite and practice their hand gestures without fear of getting clocked by a bigger man. It's an equally embarrassing sight.
