Seriously the amount of anti-Bruno comments that were on RedCafe when I was going through it was crazy. It's mad how he's seemingly gone from hero to villain there. They seemed genuinely pleased he was going to serve a 3 match ban.
He has played very poorly in the last few seasons.....but we don't yet know whether that is a bad patch or representative of his true form. His form over his early spell with Leipzig was sensationally good. Given he seems a good fit for our style of play, I think he is worth a punt.
Both of whom were on the bench. The question was who would be on the bench if we hadn't signed Werner. I was tacitly assuming that Moore would have started.
I didn't like the posts about Ndombele either but there was some defence in his case because he plainly wasn't giving his all.
I'm sorry PS, but that statement alone answers the question surely? The consistency of his poor performances over several seasons with various clubs is enough evidence. A 'bad patch' lasts for a few games, maybe a few months in extreme extenuating circumstances.
I think this is too simplistic. Over his whole career his stats are still pretty good. There is no way to be sure which period of performance is the best predictor of the future. It's very poor maths to throw away half the data for no reason. As I've said the differences are already marginal. My view with Werner is that we are getting an experienced average squad member for about half the total cost and much less risk than buying a different player plus we have some chance that he could reach his previous heights.
As an attacking player, his primary remit is to score goals or create assists. He had two good opportunities to do so in this game, and failed. Werner currently fits the definition of "luxury player" , at a time when the Spurs squad are not currently performing at a level where he can be carried for more than a couple of games.
A good fit for Spurs style in what way? He’s pacy but that’s about it. As an attacker he should be getting decent goals/assists. He hasn’t got either since 2019, that’s long enough to know he’s not good anymore. Plus Chelsea and Leipzig both wanted shot of him. I’m not sure how much more you need to see to know he’s not good enough.
I thought that, if VAR has reviewed, it couldn't be overturned. I can see why it might be, but are they saying ref and VAR got it wrong. Why have it if they can't be trusted.
Looks like his scoring rate with Leipzig in his most recent spell is about 12 goals per season of 38 matches. Doesn't sound bad for a wide player. He has played insufficient minutes for us for me to have a strong opinion. He does seem to get into good positions and then mess up which could be a confidence problem. Since I trust the judgement of the people running the club a lot more than my own or anyone else on here, I am inclined to try to understand why they might be right.
VAR are under time pressure so they will still get things wrong. Doesn't mean they are not making things better.
He took an age to leave the field after getting the red card. I suggest a rule change where the VAR can't review unless the player walks straight off. Should apply to post match appeals too.
I am asking how many starts with performances same/worse as/than that, that people here think should be allowed before Werner is no longer PL starting XI.
