I had to endure a Pompey fan being sympathetic towards me today, and it wasn't piss taking. I'm looking forward to the derbies again though, and so is he. He reckoned the interview with RM was more cringe inducing than the travesty of a performance on the pitch, and he's not wrong
Why are we so much higher than wolves, despite being level on points and superior GD? It can’t just be about opposition left to face this early in the season.
Because they are far more likely to improve & move up the table. Quite obvious the 2 favs would be the 3 Championship teams
This is (or will be) the interesting thing for me. When Jason Wilcox was here he talked about the need for "alignment of thinking and game model", and I'm sure at some point there was talk of how switching between managers with very different playing styles caused problems. The big question is how much of that was just down to Wilcox and how much that's also SR's position. If we can find a manager who plays slightly less extreme possession-based football AND can organise a defence then that would be ideal. I've no idea who that could be though.
What really pisses me off so much about saints at the moment is that our build up is so slow that even I could be picked to play. Old man's "walking football" moves quicker than we do.
And the mad mental ****s gave him a contract before a PL ball was even kicked. Sports Republic ladies and gentlemen
I thought I'd go back and see what records we had when we've previously sacked PL managers mid-season, since the start of the century: Stuart Gray - Sacked after game 10 of the season. 10 points. 16th. Paul Sturrock - Sacked after game 2 of the season. 3 points. 10th. Steve Wigley - Sacked after game 16 of the season. 12 points. 18th. Nigel Adkins - Sacked after game 22 of the season. 22 points. 15th. Mauricio Pellegrino - Sacked after game 30 of the season. 28 points. 17th. Mark Hughes - Sacked after game 14 of the season. 9 points. 18th. Ralph Hasenhuttl - Sacked after game 14 of the season. 12 points. 18th. Nathan Jones - Sacked after game 22 of the season. 15 points. 20th. Sturrock and Adkins are the outliers on that list, because neither were sacked over relegation fears (even though we did actually get relegated the season we sacked Sturrock!). So arguably they can be discounted.
This has probably been mentioned beforehand, I suffer from depression and normally try not read this type of thread. Who is selecting the squad? If it's Martin then I really don't understand his logic leaving KWP out of the side.and not picking Lallana, despite being a twatbeard he has been one of our best players, it hurts but he should be given the armband even if he doesn't play 90 minutes a game. While I don't agree with Stepnens further punishment, very few people agreed with his right to play certain games because of his captaincy.
So most were sacked when they returned just under, or on, one point per game. The exception being Nathan Jones who managed 3 points in his 8 games. We have 1 point in 6 games, so if Martin draws his next 2 games he will have the same record as Nathan jones. Let that last stat sink in.
Martin said Lallana wasn't fully fit to play yesterday. KWP isn't as clear but may be some combination of wanting a left footer at LB and him not signing a new contract. I could see him switching back to the right hand side at some point.
I’ve been banging on about this for yonks. Opposition teams must get bored waiting for Saints to arrive in their half. Is it worth jogging up to the half way line? Nah, they’ll just go back to the keeper. Just stand still and plan what you are going to have for tea. And don’t call me an old man, I’m just reaching my peak. I am an elite athlete among pensioners. In my head.
Sorry I seem to be just one big whinge at the moment but I am sick to death of the unenterprising way we play. Everyone has seen through us and we are stuffed before we start. As someone once said if you keep doing the same thing over and over then don't be surprised to get the same outcome each time. It has to stop. So we either change the way we play or we change our manager. I am sorry to say it has to be the latter.
