I probably have read too much into the often stated comment VT won’t entertain financial offers to buy the club, whether there’s any truth in these is of course unverified. However it is so frustrating that VT whom obviously is a highly successful businessman in his own field has seemingly little clue how to run a progressive football club thousands of miles away; surely he must realise his asset will be worth less if the club drops to tier 3? Would he allow his non football interests to be run by a bunch of suits with no acumen in those industries? No but he is with a multi million pound football club business. So of course I agree with all you state but his steadfast refusal to take on board and action all the suggestions made by the Trust last week is dragging the club into a downward spiral which is compounded by the confirmation VT will have the final decision on the new manager based upon the outcome of interviews with the Chuckle Brothers rather than rely directly on the opinion of the independent consultants brought in (whoever they are). I’m slowly losing the faith and toying with a decision whether to go to a probably half deserted stadium tomorrow night.
Totally get all that Nin. I was considering not renewing my ST (again) when they went sale. But fell for it. Something has to change on the field, and damn quickly!!!
To be fair to the club, it does seem that they are trying to consult "experts" this time around in the hope of finding the right person for the job. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...kCopy&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar Problem is of course that even experts get things wrong. Ultimately for all the transfer strategies, tactical nous, and seemingly impressive records of others, these things invariably go wrong at some point unless you are one of the select few clubs, and even then it can still get "horrible" in comparison to the accepted "norms" (just look at the state of Man Utd compared to previous era's). Steve Cooper was labelled a genius when he dragged Forest from (oddly enough) the same position we're in and took them up via the play-off... Now he's going to be lucky to hang on to his job at Leicester. Bielsa at Leeds was lauded over, where is he now, how are Leeds doing?? Sadly it's a rarity for things to go well and "to plan" in football and even rarer for it to last a long time. Whoever comes in as manager I'm sure will get enough of a tune out of our squad to avoid relegation. I may have been a little over optimistic thinking we'd get top 10 but who knows (Forest under Cooper being an example) but is remaining in the Championship such a bad place to be?? VT has backed the previous manager and brought in players that arguably SHOULD be good at this level (again, if we're all being honest, how many of us thought we'd signed duds in the last few windows??). Aware I'm just waffling now but I think what I'm trying to say is that although the buck HAS to stop with VT as he is the man at the top and ultimately has the final say on things, I honestly don't believe he can be pointed at as the only problem/cause of our current predicament, there are so many different factors at play.
The challenge the experts will have is in understanding Tan's preferred direction of travel. And that challenge is because he doesn't have one. How do you know what manager to recruit if you don't know the operating model of the club or the style of football you want to play? So, the manager will need to align with Tan, who chops and changes. More goals from the keepers, more shots from everywhere. And the style of football? Whatever you fancy so long as the keeper scores. And are the experts interested in the long term fortunes of the club or their pay check. As a non-expert, I'll tell him you need more footballing experience of the board. A more progressive style of football with players to match. And the academy and the 1st team aligned so there's a road map for juniors to 1st team. Oh, and keep your nose out of footballing matters. There, he can have that for free.
I know. My 29 year old daughter doesn't like me sharing my 35 years of business experience for free. She'd rather pay others.
You can blame managers, the board , the owner, but at some point the players have to stand up and be counted, now is that time.
I'd agree if they are allowed to play to their strengths. The manager sets the framework. If that doesn't get the best out of the players, it's hard to point your finger at the players.
Well hopefully we can agree we need an experienced championship type of manager after today’s game. To let a 1-0 lead with the second surely on its way before the ultra defensive changes was tactically naive. It was similar to Buluts changes at Leeds and Ipswich away last season. The sooner a new manager is in the longer he’ll have to prepare and work with the squad before the crucial double home fixtures coming up after this break.
Could do worse. Of the shortlist, he's probably best suited to managing the bigger picture. The management must get it right sooner or later. If you throw enough darts, you'll hit the bullseye.
Glen asked Riza some pointed questions and got these answers. If it’s down to Tan and those two clowns what chance have we got of the club making a right decision?
An indictment in its own right. But given Cardiff's horrendous track record of striker signings in recent years — their eight striker signings since the beginning of the 2022/23 season have yielded just 38 goals in 237 games
City are missing the opportunity of the break to get a new manager in place. Nothing Tan does will ever surprise me and as Glen suggests below there’s every chance Riza will be in charge of the team a week Saturday.
Good morning nin. I hear and share your frustration and to add to your ire, I'm going to say that I'm ready to cut the club a tiny amount of slack on this. First of all Riza is four points from six and while I fully agree he made howlers at Bristol and made it worse by not acknowledging them, I can't imagine that he hasn't learnt from it all. One or two games is all I'm suggesting. Secondly, your thoughts suggest that there is an ideal replacement available and ready to join. There's nothing more than speculation at the moment and even the names in that speculation are at best an improvement without being overwhelming. Don't misunderstand me, if a new boss that is able to take us forward and is available, I'm all for bringing him in. If not, we should continue the current process on the assumption that Riza isn't the man. Basically what the club is doing anyway. Probably over simplistic but it's how I see it.
