Nothing wrong with metal Jack!!. To me and many others it’s the greatest genre of music. My dad liked Petula Clark mind.
Smug I can remember my dad buying 'Sailor' he used to sing along to it when played on record player ( remember them) I still listen to it occasionally, actually brings tears to my eyes
I prefer to call it Rock (classic, hard, heavy etc..), never liked the term Metal. Whatever it's called, it's still my genre of choice. Can't stand what they call death metal though....that is bad.
Great memory mate. She was adored in France, that song is regularly sung by street performers on the Riviera ...
I admit Im a bit prejudice about this about heavy metal etc, sad that I am. I just associate it with noise, rightly or wrongly. When I was a bit of a wrong un, circa late 60s early 70s, in the area I grew up it was all motown stuff etc etc and anything associated with 'hairies' was frowned upon!! I know I know. Ive mellowed a bit now, slightly, but generally am not keen on noise............ However everyone to their own HTFL
My Dad used to watch it every week when I was a lad, used to love to sit and watch it with him. First time I ever heard Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd was on there, I remember watching it thinking Wow. Happy times.
This is the OGWT version, from 1975, I'll have been 10. I know i posted a live version a few pages back, but this performance made a lasting impression for me.
Reminds me of this from Siouxsie And The Banshees which I love, she looks wonderful in the video. Quick story. When I was l was living near Carcassonne, SW France, I was taking care of a fabulous villa. It was rented out for £15,000 a week and we had a top English chef, Wiggy, who cooked for various places. She told me she was catering a very small private party for an English lady who lived quietly, in her rambling place, surrounded by various rescued animals and farmyard geese, chickens, etc. I dug a bit and found it was Siouxsie. I offered my help as sous chef so I could go with her. To cut a long story short I chickened out. I have such great memories of seeing her at my club in Nottingham and didn't want them spoiled. I've done that before and regretted it. Anyway, hope you like the video.
Carcassonne a wonderful part of the world too. Had one of my best meals ever in Carcassonne. It was an oppressively hot day, not really the weather for stew of any kind but this cassoulet absolutely knocked my socks off. I'll never forget that meal. 10/10
