Yeah, i do remember when Ronald hadnt won a game all season, and his tactics provided almost every goal conceded to the opposition.
The issue with this philosophy is that if this happens, we wont get a chance to rebuild in the same vein with continuity as a fair few of the players wont be here. So it would be a constant state of flux. Also, not sure about the getting better at managing the game when we are winning. I thought we have only been ahead in 1 game this EPL season? Did Martin say anything about why there were 3 unmarked Ipswich players on the edge of the box during that game?
On the flip side… I just don’t get this “keep him at any costs”. His record isn’t amazing, wherever he’s been. We were ok last year, nothing special. He came 4th in a 3 horse race. Even during the unbeaten run we conceded a lot. At no point did we tear the league up. If we can get Potter, Moyes or someone that can turn us into an actual premier league level side again, why wouldn’t we do that? Just because our hipster owners want to reinvent football. Truthfully, I actually agree that he still deserves more time. People are correct that we are still a new team. There were also some signs at the weekend that there is something to build on - even though I thought Ipswich outclassed us for most of the game. But if we still haven’t won soon, something has to change. We have massive games against Leicester and Everton coming up. We need to be going into those positively. It’s becoming clear that we don’t have strikers capable of keeping us up, so a more defensive/pragmatic manager may be required.
Agree with your general point but on your final paragraph I'd say we were actually too slow to pull the trigger - Ralph should have gone in the summer imo.
I think RM just needs to take a more pragmatic approach to the way we play different teams. He knows which teams like to press high and which teams don’t and he should be sending the teams out to play in accordance with that. Bournemouth like to press, so he should be looking at getting the ball forward more quickly with balls over the midfield and ask the front line to win the ball or immediately press the opposition and get the ball back in an area where it is safer to fanny around with the passing. Man Utd don’t press which allowed us to move the ball around and dominate for the first 30 minutes. Horses for courses.
Honestly, how long do you think Moyes would last before the fans started complaining about style? I didn't want him to leave, but I could understand why, despite getting us 3 Euro seasons in a row and winning one of them, a large section of the crowd wanted him gone. 20% possession and set up to defend against the dross of the league at home isn't what they pay the entrance fee for.
I really don’t see things improving much with the players we have. The system we play just isn’t good enough for this level. It’s going to take a good half season for the new players to settle in to his style.
Yeah I wouldn't want him despite rating him as a manager. Our squad also isn't suited at all to the way Moyes plays. Not to mention he'd never come here. Complete non starter.
I’m quite surprised - thought he’d be decent for you. Cascarino was saying he was surprised you got rid of JWP as you really missed his set pieces.
Is it better than passing backwards and sideways until we inevitably concede from giving it away or a badly marked set piece though?
I don’t get this. We’re in the top flight now. The best way to become established is not to get thrashed all season, go down and hope you get promoted again.
Come on everyone. A few hours from now he will be the toast of the South Coast. Or he will simply be toast.
