Can't tell from the replays if Prest hit that or not, so I don't blame the umpire. But Prest's reaction is pretty clear that he hit it.
A lot of umpires have been wearing head cameras this season, to allow the ECB collect information on whether they are of good enough quality to act as a very (very) basic form of DRS in the future at county level.
That final drop summed up the game really. Because the drops of Albert, Brown and Abbott in the first innings, and Vince in the second, were probably the deciding moments of the match.
Hampshire win by 5 wickets and finish second. Congratulations to Hants, but a sorry end to a brilliant season for Somerset.
If only there was another month of the season to play. We're on such good form but the season is ending just too soon. Only one D1 defeat all season, way back in April (albeit it's a defeat which has ultimately cost us the title). 6 wins and 4 draws from our subsequent 10 games. And none of those 4 draws were "losing draws". They were two draws which we nearly won, and two bore draws affected by rain and flat wickets. I think we have one more chance next season, before the squad becomes too old and probably requires a major overhaul. (Although Barker is already concerning me because injuries have started to hit him hard over the past two seasons. I like Sonny Baker, but he's not yet the answer to replace big Keith.)
This is what sport is all about being gracious in such a situation is not easy as most true sports fans know. I’m away on a cruise and at some point this evening I will have be as gracious as you informing a fellow passenger and fan of Somerset of this news.
