You mean like how were up in arms when we lost to decent teams in Leeds and Sheff U? Balance is useful, and on balance, we'll be OK. Not sure we should be expecting too much more with our turnaround of players.
Any neutral watching today's match, not knowing league positions, wouldn't have pegged Cardiff as bottom of the league. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Today we were decent in the final 3rd, but defensively, it’s a disaster waiting to happen. If we **** about like that against better teams, they’ll pick us off, time & again. I’d say we spent 20 minutes messing about between Pandur & the back 4, we lost the ball on at least 3 occasions that I can remember. There’s options for the ball to be played into midfield, but what do they do? They pass it further & further back, even as far as the 6 yard box, before panic , hoof & lose the ball. 2nd half today, free kick in their half, 1 minute later they’ve got a corner with us not playing the ball forward once! Why does he continue to play Omur on the wing, he’s not a winger, or a wide player, he does zero there. Start of the second half, he comes inside & starts creating chances. I just don’t get it at all. Bedia, is one of those strikers we seem to love signing, don’t score, I’m not talking about penalties, can’t stick a leg out to turn the ball in, can’t read where the balls going & only when it ping pongs round the box, does he get a chance, which ultimately comes to nothing. Mehlem, another midfielder who doesn’t seem to do anything, just before he came off, he lost the ball, they attacked & he’s bent over feeling sorry for himself. Anyway, good result, but I feel it’s just papering over the cracks. We’ll see against a better side just how far we’ve come.
I agree with most of that except Bedia and Mehlem.I thought Bedia played really well, and that was Mehlem’s strongest game for us with lots of chasing down and positive involvement.
****ing hell. We won 4-1. If Cardiff were more clinical it could’ve been 4-3 or 4-4 or whatever but they weren’t. If we were more clinical against Sheffield United, we might’ve drew or even won. In my opinion, the biggest concern in the opening games was a lack of cutting edge and ability to make that final pass or finish. We’ve won our last two and scored seven. I had a feeling some posters want Walter to fail so they can say ‘I told you so’ but some of the posts on this thread just confirm it. It’s pathetic.
There was only Deano and Jason Price who I instantly recognised....Pricey from his barnet and Deano from his skinny jeans.
Were going to continue to try to draw the press and play through it. Something that hasn't changed since the early days of Rosenior. And it will probably continue after Walter leaves, so I'd get used to it if I were you.
It never fails to amaze me seeing so many posters on here startled that the opposition team is entitled to try and get it forward just as much as we are. It’s real football, not an arcade game. Great win today and a promise of more to come. SCB has gone all-in a bit too soon, I’m afraid.
Two tricky away fixtures coming up. We always struggle against QPR at their place. Norwich is always a tough place to go and come away with anything. Two points from the next two games would be a decent return.
The last thing I want is Walter out, I’ve said all along that he needs time. My post is pointing out the problems we have, our final 3rd looks much, much better, in fact when the ball moves forward, it seems we have a chance to score. My worry is the fannying around at the back, there’s no reason to do it, so why do we do it?
Because there is a reason to do it. To avoid a stalemate on the edge of their third going sideways looking to break down 2 deep banks of 4. In short, we don't create as much in the long run if we don't make the active part of the pitch much bigger.
I've seen City play against piss poor bottom of the league teams and lose by a goal or two. Does the scoreline flatter us? Maybe. Does that really matter? Not today. Onwards and upwards. The rest of the table isn’t much different from what you'd expect towards the season end, and we've only lost to teams in the top 6. Let's beat QPR then aim for +5pts from the next 3 and see where we land
I understand that, but we’re taking too long & as I’ve said, a better team does us over, but in the same thought, maybe we won’t need to invite better teams so deep. Something to ponder!
I agree there's a balance to be struck, but we look most susceptible on the counter as opposed to playing through the lines at the back.
I think TW said in his interview he want entirely happy with the defence not moving the ball forward much quicker... I suspect Hughes time is not too far away...
He said also that we sometimes do it too quickly before it's really on as well. But that's something that should improve over time. We have to accept it's still very early days for what's effectively a brand new entity.
