    So much for confectionery.

On this quiet Thursday (at the moment) but this is the Pompey board, so I should know better-

What did you watch on TV as a kid? My fave all time was the black and white Robinson Crusoe series screened during every school holiday in the sixties-or it seemed like it.

Does anyone remember the old 'Tales from Europe' fairytales like 'The Tinder Box'

    and then...Banana Spilts

Check out- www.thechestnut.com to hunt a few of your old favourites down.<ok>

The tales from Europe. Were they the ones where there was no dubbing. Just a narrator telling the story over the original soundtrack?

Banana splits. Pater hated that with a passion. I can still see the look of incredulity, on his face, the first time it appeared on our old TV.

He liked Robinson Crusoe though. Big fan of literature and music, of the classic variation only, my pop.

The shows I remember most fondly, were the Sci fi ones such as, The Tomorrow People, Escape into night, Dr Who, which seems so corny now but I was really scared, as a little shaver.

Some of the old 'Tales from Europe' were overdubbed and one or two had a narrator. In their day they were quite scary- the dogs in the 'Tinder Box' and the dwarf in 'Singing Ringing Tree' especially. I think they'd still send a few kids running behind the sofa today!

A for Andromeda, with Julie Christie. Scared me so much I would walk through the graveyard in Old Wymering rather than on the same side of the road as the electricity sub-station. <yikes>

I remember Robinson Crusoe - it was a French production I remember. I remember spending ages at the piano trying to learn the theme music - much to my mother's annoyance.

I used to love the old Gerry Anderson puppet shows - Fireball XL5, Supercar, Thunderbirds etc. The Magic Roundabout was a cult show in my 5th year (year 11 to all you youngsters).

Its got to be the banana splits for me. Thinking a little more i then came up with The Pink Panther, Hong Kong Fuey along with Hectors House and Mary Mungo and Midge.

I've actually managed to get the original score for the Robinson Crusoe series on CD. Sounds great. There were some really good little tunes in there apart from the main theme which is a classic.

Do you remember the quiz on Crackerjack when the winner was the one who didn't drop the prizes, some of which were cabbages. Completely daft
but we were easily pleased back then!

  16. Nottarf funky, I was born when Blondie were in the charts and Callaghan was Prime Minister. Don't worry I can keep up with the conversation. Bill and Ben were a bit before my time though!

For the record, I do not have a crack habit (neither does Sweep); my only vice is a drag on a good quality habanos.

Pepper Ann! What a great cartoon!

Also other fantastic programmes like Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Johnny Quest, Wacky Races, Renford Rejects (should be a popular programme in this forum!), The Wild Thornberries, Recess, Disney's Hercules, Disney's Aladdin, The Mighty Ducks, Dexter's Lab..... So many good programmes.
