This begs the question, who in the government hasn't taken money from Lord Alli? All the ways Lord Alli has helped Labour, from work clothes to overnight stays Here are all the ways he has supported the Labour Party in recent years from hosting parties to funding extra staff. None of the donations breach Parliamentary rules. £16,200 of ‘work clothing’ for Keir Starmer The Labour peer also gave him “multiple pairs of glasses” the same month which were valued at £2,485, according to Starmer’s register of interests. £20,000 of ‘accommodation’ for Keir Starmer Between 29 May and 13 July 2024, Starmer received accommodation from Lord Alli to the value of £20,400. £32,000 in running costs for Keir Starmer’s office In April 2020, during the race to replace Jeremy Corbyn as Labour Party leader, he also gave £100,000 to Starmer’s campaign, having previously given £50,000 to Rayner and £54,000 to Emily Thornberry to support their candidacies. £51,000 for the Labour Shadow Cabinet Between October 2023 and March 2024, he gave Angela Rayner £17,650 which she stated was intended “to support me in my capacity as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party”, as well as a separate unspecified “donation in kind” of £3,550 in July 2024 “for undertaking parliamentary duties”. The Labour peer contributed £12,500 to David Lammy in November 2023, £10,000 to Ed Miliband in April 2023 and £10,000 to Wes Streeting in August 2021 while all three were members of the shadow cabinet, with the donations earmarked for supporting the hiring of additional staff. Donations of £10,000 in November 2023 and £4,000 in December 2023 were also made to Bridget Phillipson while she was shadow Education Secretary which she stated was “to host a number of events, including on behalf of the Shadow Education Team”. Lending Angela Rayner a New York flat The trip was described as a “personal holiday” and was valued at £1,250. ‘Hospitality costs’ for the Labour Party Since 2022, 25 of the donations made by Lord Alli, totalling £70,000, have been classified as “hospitality”, provided either to individual MPs or the central party. £10,000 for election campaign of Sue Gray’s son Liam Conlon One of the largest individual donations to his campaign came from Lord Alli, who gave £10,000 according to Conlon’s register of interests. Alongside supporting Conlon, Lord Alli has also made several donations to other Labour MPs. This includes Thangam Debbonaire, who received £5,000 from him via her local party shortly before the election was announced. In March 2022, he paid £4,600 for “catering services” for a joint fundraiser for Wes Streeting, then shadow Health Secretary, and Spen Valley MP Kim Leadbeater. He also gave £20,000 to Jess Phillips, now the minister for safeguarding, in 2019 which was intended to support her “office and campaigns work”. Lord Alli also gave Dame Siobhain McDonagh, the MP for Mitcham and Morden since 1997, a £1.2m interest-free loan in March 2023 which was reportedly to be “repaid on the sale of the home” shared with a family member. https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/c...9u_vpLjkHstgqkJ7QNHjz-NsFgt6DWrlBlAz25AoBQYlI
Labour are planning to introduce a “sin tax” on alcohol. They are punishing the already dying pubs yet again. Utter bell ends.
Key question is what’s in it for Lord Alli exactly. That’s what will swing this No one’s mentioned this, there must be something
Eye eye. "Keir Starmer hedges his bets by praising a potential future president of the USA, Donald Trump. Trump then follows suit by praising a potential next prime minister of the UK, Nigel Farage." IF the gatemouthed gobshite were to become PM he'd find it harder to hide from the whole population than he does from those unfortunate enough to live in Clacton. please log in to view this image Edit: More eye more Keir bashing from the alt right rag. But but it's woke lefty so I'm not at all reliably informed. please log in to view this image
If Labour want to close tax loopholes, maybe they can start by closing the one that has allowed Amazon to pay just 3.7% of it’s turnover in tax.
If I had that much money to donate, I would give it to a dog rescue centre, something that is worthy and decent.
I’m totally against the freebies and I think Starmer deserves all the criticism he is receiving but to keep things in perspective I read that the total amount he has received in freebies, since 2019, is less than the amount Johnson received to tart up Number 10. And I don’t think people would be paying too much attention to it if he wasn’t stopping the winter fuel allowance. If, as is being suggested, Reeves back tracks on ending the non dom tax exemption I expect he will get another kicking, as everyone accuses him of looking after the wealthy.
Clearly it’s worse than you think. But don’t take it from me; take it from a labour MP: Labour MP Rosie Duffield has resigned the Labour whip with immediate effect. Her resignation pulls no punches: “As Prime Minister, your managerial and technocratic approach, and lack of basic politics and political instincts, have come crashing down on us as a party after we worked so hard, promised so much, and waited a long fourteen years to be mandated by the British public to return to power. Since the change of government in July, the revelations of hypocrisy have been staggering and increasingly outrageous. I cannot put into words how angry I and my colleagues are at your total lack of understanding about how you have made us all appear. How dare you take our longed-for victory, the electorate's sacred and precious trust, and throw it back in their individual faces and the faces of dedicated and hardworking Labour MPs?! The sleaze, nepotism and apparent avarice are off the scale. I am so ashamed of what you and your inner circle have done to tarnish and humiliate our once proud party.”
Good for her. He needs a good hard kick up the arse and a reminder that he represents the Labour Party and not the Tories. Hopefully more will follow her.
Hopefully not. Whilst she has every right to express her opinion about the leadership, she should remember that she was elected to Parliament as a Labour MP, and Starmer’s leadership was pivotal to the election of the first Labour government for 14 years. It would be a tragedy if that government were undermined by the tantrums of a few self important backbenchers.
It is pretty obvious Starmer has wound up a lot of Labour backbenchers. I think they probably expected him to be more ‘Labour’ on coming to power and are now worried his crushing of the Labour left might be reflective of more than a desire to be electable.
I don’t think anyone likes him, left or right. Clearly he has no morals or principles. He is a lying psychopath who would have said anything to grasp power. It was quite obvious even before the election, for those that cared to look.
